Hotels can always get a sitter to watch children during meetings and then once work is out of the way, the evenings can be dedicated to them. Not to mention the fact that children often love the opportunity to get on a plane and go on an adventure with their parents. Everything is new and exciting for them; even the most mundane places you have seen a hundred times. Some of my best one-to-one time with one of my daughters is sitting in the airport lounge together – time that would otherwise be wasted. I’m not exaggerating when I say that bringing my daughters along makes business travel ten times better – not to mention how much they learn and see the world in the process!

4. Be available when out of the office – Ignoring email when you get home is not the answer. It’s important to be available to your employees during off hours at home. Getting online and staying responsive some mornings, nights, and weekends will help to keep productivity flowing when you’re out of the office and save you the stress of being bombarded with emails when you walk in on Monday morning, which can be paralyzing to productivity. I’m online 24/7 and always checking email. My most productive times of the day are often at night, after I put my daughters to bed, or early in the morning before they wake up.

But I also think that if the idea is that good, it’s worth taking the risk and going solo.

App ideas are a dime a dozen and while anybody can have them, not everyone can build them. This is in part why good coders are in high demand everywhere. Business people shouldn’t think the idea is the “hard” part and that coders are doing the “easy” part of building a product.

At the same time, I think it will be prudent to bear in mind, that to have a successful business venture, all sides will have to bring their A-game. A fantastically developed app with perfect UX and UI can easily slip through people’s attentions due to the myriad of options available in the market.

For any product to succeed, it requires a good mixture of geeks and suits. There is a joint-course conducted by Stanford and University of British Columbia, called “Technology Entrepreneurship”, which is offered in the Business school not in the Engineering or Computing department. The requirement is that the business students are to form teams of four with at least one technically inclined partner to launch a business and pitch it to VCs. This balance in the back office and the front office is required to build something solid that will be sold widely.

Million Moments (iOS, Android) – Produced by Sony and primarily focused on photo viewing, Million Moments is a nice though possibly useless departure from the other apps in this list. It allows you to assemble small slideshows so that you can view with your friends. I’d rather view photos on my computer or TV though.

Snapdish (iOS, Android) – Another interesting niche take on photos is Snapdish. It’s all about photos and food, the ideal app for food-lovers, and they’re big population, half of my friends take photos before they eat. Snapdish puts this all in one place and connects food-lovers with each other, thus socializing food.

Million Moments(iOS, Android) - Sonyが作った、主に写真を見るためのアプリであるMillion Momentsは素敵だが、このリストに上がっている他のアプリに比べてこれといった使い道はない。短いスライドショーを作ることができ、友達と一緒にみることができる。個人的には写真はコンピューターやテレビ上で見るほうが好きだ。

Snapdish(iOS, Android) - もう一つ、写真を撮る面白いアプリがSnapdishだ。写真と食がすべてであり、食道楽の方には理想的なアプリで、大変人気がある。私の友人も半数は食べる前に写真を撮っている。Snapdishは撮った写真を一か所にまとめておくことができ、食道楽同士つながることができる。食のソーシャルネットワークだ。

Voicepic (iOS) – Possibly the progenitor of PaPa from China, this app also allows you to add sound to a picture. It also allows you to add various filters on top of your sound-enabled pictures. I’m not sure how this is catching on though, especially with services like Vine gaining popularity.

South Korea
Pudding Camera (iOS, Android) – Despite the odd chocolate-like name, don’t be deceived, this app’s got the usual Instagram-like features plus a cool panorama feature. A panorama feature is not something most apps in this list have.The app annoyingly posts to Twitter, but can be circumvented.

Voicepic(iOS) - おそらく中国のPaPaの前身だろう。このアプリでも画像に音を入れることができる。また、音をつける画像の最初から様々なフィルターをかけることもできる。Vineのようなサービスが人気を得てきているのに、このアプリがどうしてよいのか、よくわからない。

韓国
Pudding Camera(iOS, Android) - チョコレートのような変な名前だが、だまされてはいけない。このアプリは通常のInstagramのような特徴にかっこいいパノラマがついている。パノラマができるアプリは、このリスト上でも多くはない。Twitterでつぶやくよう、煩わされるが、回避することもできる。

4) Asia outranks the rest of the world

Design crowdsourcing is not just popular in India and China. It’s also extremely popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and even Pakistan, meaning the entire region is very well represented.

If I analyse website traffic to sites like ours (and other crowdsourcing sites) I see an interesting trend. Design crowdsourcing websites are more popular traffic wise (relative to other websites) in Asia than in the west.

Among all these social sites, we identified two of them headed for an epic battle this year: WeChat and Sina Weibo . Weibo needs to win but its popularity appears to have slowed and expansion plans have gone nowhere so far. On the other hand, WeChat is hitting multiple overseas markets, accumulating more than 300 million users. CEO and founder of Tencent, Pony Ma, is apparently convinced that WeChat is the next big thing, ready to spearhead the brand onto the international stage.

Luxola, a Singapore based online cosmetics and skincare store, has just announced their Series A funding from GREE Ventures, the largest investment the Japanese venture capital firm has made in Southeast Asia to date.

Launched back in September 2011, Luxola.com is a Singapore-based online cosmetics and skincare store. Many international brands have also debuted in the Singapore market and some of the brands featured on the platform includes BECCA Cosmetics, Benta Berry, BY Terry, Dr. Jart, DUO, DuWop, Estelle & Thild, Nuxe, Original Mineral, Phyto, PURE by Phytocare Sara Happ, SK II, Sleek Makeup, Strivectin, This Works and many others.

In addition to announcing its Series A investment, Luxola has also announced the hiring of two senior executives: Chief Marketing and Product Officer Christine Ng and GM of Indonesia Adrien Barthel. Ms. Ng joins Luxola after 13 years of experience in Silicon Valley where she has held senior product and marketing positions at eBay, Sephora and Pop Sugar. Mr. Barthel joins Luxola having spent the last 3 years rolling out the e-commerce platform for Carrefour Indonesia.

As if we’ve been short of future-gen iPhone concept ideas of late, German designer Eric Huismann has once again explored the idea of a transparent display in his ‘iPhone 6′ design. The very slick looking device is 17% thinner than the already svelte iPhone 5, packs a 10-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, and an upgraded A7 processor. Feel free to drool over the images after the break!

The display measures in at four inches, the same as the current iPhone 5, but that is where the similarities pretty much grind to a halt.

There’s a see-through display – something many Apple fans have (somewhat bemusingly) alluded to in concept designs of times passed – but on this particular design, I think it does enhance the overall elegance of the device. As well as, of course, looking great, the transparency could also have many practical uses, particularly in the field of navigation, exploration and augmented reality in general.

While the entire span of the display is completely transparent, the top and bottom areas remain opaque, with all of the hardware features meticulously squeezed into these very tiny compartments. Among them is an A7 processor for "even better" performance,and that 10-megapixel snapper offering full-HD video recording.
