Taylor's Methodus Incrementorum Directa et Inversa (1715) added a new branch to the higher mathematics, now designated the "calculus of finite differences." The Greek philosopher Zeno considered the problem of summing an infinite series to achieve a finite result, but rejected it as an impossibility: the result was Zeno's paradox. Later, Aristotle proposed a philosophical resolution of the paradox, but the mathematical content was apparently unresolved until taken up by Democritus and then Archimedes. It was through Archimedes's method of exhaustion that an infinite number of progressive subdivisions could be performed to achieve a finite result.[1] Liu Hui independently employed a similar method a few centuries later.

The home screen is more or less the same, with Chrome-like pages for your most visited sites, apps, and games, as well as an OS X-like dock along the bottom. As with version 1.0, everything is customizable — you can switch backgrounds, move apps and pages around, and generally fix things how you like them. Flicking between these pages feels fantastic — very smooth and responsive with a mouse — but other aspects of the experience clearly aren’t as finely tuned. Several times when I clicked on apps to open them nothing happened because the browser thought I was clicking them to drag them somewhere else. Am I clicking wrong? It also shares the rendering issues that plagued version one, probably because it’s based on a “dual core” Webkit and IE rendering engine (that’s what Baidu told us, anyway). Japan’s Freco Lets You Share and Discover Interesting Places with Like-minded People

Earlier this week, Tokyo-based startup Kaditt introduced an iPhone app (available in English and Japanese) that allows users to discover places to visit based on your friends’ recommendation. It’s called Freco, which is a combination of the two words, friends and recommend. The app allows you to disocover places to visit from a selection of sight-seeing and dining spots recommended by like-minded people you know on Facebook, Twitter, and Mixi.
