Limelight just announced today that it would be making its service available in Japanese, so developers who need a hand marketing their app to the rest of the world can make use of it. Limelight developer Andrew Culver said in a blog post that almost 10 percent of their sign-ups were from Asia-based developers, with non-English apps.

We asked Andrew about the breakdown of that ten percent, and he tells us that many sign-ups are for Chinese apps. Nevertheless, Limelight is looking to serve Japan because it’s a slightly better fit:

Facebook Testing “Facebook Credits for Websites” That Helps Third-Party Sites Sell Virtual Goods　Oct 24th, 2011


Facebook has just announced a closed, limited test in which for the first time it will allow websites to process payments for virtual goods using Facebook Credits. Facebook’s virtual currency is currently the mandatory payment method for all Facebook games on the web, a payment option for Facebook apps, and became available as a payment option to mobile app developers last week. The only initial launch partner for “Facebook Credits for Websites” will be online and downloadable games site GameHouse that until now only accepted payments through credit card and PayPal.

6. Have Useful Assets Available

As you get down to pitching time, make sure you have all assets ready that a journalist might request, such as:

・ A company or product description
・Photos relevant to the story
・Screenshots of the product

In some cases it may make sense to include a screenshot or photo in the initial pitch, but most of the time just mention that you can send over photos, screenshots and more details if the writer is interested in learning more.

Timing is essential when pitching news. You want to give the writer enough time to report, but you don’t want to pitch the idea too soon that the writer forgets about it by the time your company launches or announces the news officially. I personally prefer to receive news one week in advance of the official announcement. And when possible, I love to have the option of covering the news as an exclusive, when a publication is given the right to be the first publication to report on a given story.
