On Saturday it’s the Eurovision song contest. Every year each country in Europe submits one song into the competition. The final stage of the competition is broadcast live throughout Europe and receives an average of 125 million viewers.
It’s not an important competition at all, rather it’s a festival of music.
Last year the competition was won by “Lena” from Germany, so this year the competition will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The voting system to decide the winner is quite complicated, but basically there is a telephone vote and a jury of music professionals who rank and score each song from 12-1 points. (12 points is awarded to the favourite song.)
Throughout Europe all the points are totalled to decide the winner.
This event will completely dominate European TV on Saturday night and across Europe there will be many Eurovision Parties.
