Perhaps most notable are the statistics given for mobile and 3G users in Asia. As we’ve stated many times, China’s mobile numbers are pretty well off the charts with 900 million mobile users. But China still has less 3G users than neighboring Japan (4 percent penetration in China versus ’97 or 98 percent’ in Japan) due to the difference in network infrastructure, which makes the two markets very different as Chen Qi explains in the talk.

They also touch on smartphone market share, and for Japan, this is a number I’ve been trying to find reliable figures on for a while. Again, I’m not sure of its source, but Spil says smartphone market share is about 10-15 percent, with over 10 million users in Japan.

Also of note was the comparison of DeNA’s ARPU in comparison to Facebook and Zynga. You’ll see in their slide that DeNA has an estimated 30 times more revenue per user than Facebook and 15 times more than Zynga. We can’t vouch for those numbers, but Japanese companies have always been good at milking money from mobile users.

Japan’s Gumi Raises $25 million, Wants to Beat Zynga

A couple of weeks back we had a chance to speak with Hironao Kunimitsu, the founder and president of social game maker Gumi, about the development of his company. As one of the largest game development companies in Japan. Their users consumes $6 million per month on a gross basis and its numbers are still growing. Readers may recall that Gumi recently helped bring EA’s FIFA World Class Soccer to the GREE platform in Japan.

Today the company has more good news, as they have just raised 2 billion yen (or about $25 million) in funds from investors that include JAFCO, DBJ Capital, Shinsei Bank, Nissei Capital, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital (VCs), and Koei Tecmo Holdings [1]. We got in touch with Mr. Kunimitsu to ask a few quick follow-ups about today’s news:

Isn’t the company already profitable? Why are you raising a new round of funds?

"Yes, we are making profits, but we needed this round to execute M&A in Japan and overseas, and to accelerate our business overseas."

How big is the team right now? Are you planning to hire more?

" There are currently 120 in Tokyo, and 20 in Fukuoka (in western Japan). By the end of next April we will be [more] global with 250 employees."

Secondly, its back cover is deformed, so there is a gap even when it is closed. Additionally, there is a dent at the edge of the cover on the back, and there is also a slight crack. These are crucial problems for all cameras that require complete shading.

Thirdly, there are lots of spotted molds on its lens. I asked you before purchasing if there was any mold, and your answer was "no". Your answer differs from the fact.

These problems give great difficulties to camera's functionality. It is not right for you to have sold it without showing the flaws on the back cover on the pictures.
