Giant electromagnetic vacuum cleaner will be installed in a Beijing park to suck up pollution

Pollution fears are on the up-and-up in Beijing once again as winter, the smoggiest season of them all, fast approaches. After the World Health Organization released a report labeling air pollution as a leading cause of cancer earlier this month, China’s government is more frantic than ever to curb the level of PM 2.5 particles in the air.

So far, the local government’s contingency plan includes restricting the number of cars on the road, creating a color-coded alert system, and stopping production at major polluting factories once the pollution reaches a certain level.

北京ではスモッグが一番発生する冬の季節が近づくにつれ、公害の恐怖が高まって来ている。　今月初めに発表されたWHOのレポートによると、癌の原因の第一に大気汚染が挙げられていて、中国政府は今まで以上に空気中に含まれるのPM2.5のレベルを抑制しようと必死になっている。

今までの地方自治体による緊急時対応計画は、車両の数の制限、色別による警戒システムの設定や空気汚染のレベルがある程度に達したら汚染物質を排出する主な工場の生産を停止するといったことが含まれている。

But the most wild attempt yet to clear the air comes from a deal between a Dutch artist and the Beijing Mayor. Daan Roosegaarde will test his electromagnetic vacuum cleaner that pulls pollutants out of the air similar to how a balloon uses static to attract your hair. In one of the city’s public parks, copper coils will be buried underground to replicate a successful experiment conducted in a 25-square-meter room. Unfortunately, Beijingers won’t be able to reap the hypothesized benefits until the project is ready in nine months.

しかし、この汚染された空気を改善する一番突飛な方法は、オランダのアーチストと北京の知事の共同計画である。　Daan Roosegaardeは風船の静電気が髪の毛を引きつけるように、電磁掃除機で空気内の汚染物質を吸引するテストを試みるという。２５平方メートルの部屋で成功させた実験を再現させるため、市内の公園の地下に銅線コイルを埋め込むらしい。　残念ながら、北京の住民はこの実験の結果を、プロジェクトの完成予定９ヶ月後まで見る事ができないが。

団体プログラムの最小催行人数は何名からですか？

基本として２９名以上（小／中学生のカヌーは２１名）となります。２０名未満の場合はご相談下さい

プログラムによっては必要です。予約時に当社のフォーマットを
送りますので、必要事項をご記入の上、返信を御願い致します

強風時でなければ実施可能です。雨での実施を希望されない場合やできないと判断した場合は
全行程（室内）プログラムにお振替いただきます。
雨天時のキャンセルは、キャンセル料として５０％ちょうだい致します。

What is the minimum number of participants for the group programs?

Basically at least 29 (21 for a canoe program for elementary/Jr. high students). Please consult us if under 20.

Do we need to submit a participants list in advance?

Depending on the program, we will request it. We will send you a form upon reservation. Please fill out the information and send it back to us.

The program will be carried on unless there is a strong wind. If you don't wish to have the program in rain or if we decide to cancel outside activities due to an inclement weather, all the programs will be moved inside. We will charge 50% as a cancellation fee if you cancel due to rain.

In case of inclement weather, could you transfer the students to other programs?

We can reassign them to other programs.

Could it be other than the program you originally signed up for which moved inside due to the weather?

Any program other than Hoto-making which requires preparation.
We will charge the fee for the program the student participates in.

In inclement weather, do you have a variety of choices to choose from?

One outdoor activity for one inside activity.

What shall we do with the bags?

We suggest that you leave all your belongings on the bus if not needed for the program.

けが人等が出た場合はどうなりますか

担当スタッフが応急手当をさせていただきます　それ以上の処理が必要な場合は、病院等の手配を致します。
病院までの移動に着きましては各団体様でご用意いただくことを原則とさせていただきます。

引率者は何人ですか

高校生までのプログラムの場合は1名以上御願い致します。
見学でも一緒に体験していただいてもかまいません。


引率者の体験料金はどうなりますか

子供団体の場合、参加者２９名に対し1名の引率者は無料でご参加いただけます。
但し、釣りの場合は遊魚券代は必要です。

How would you respond to the injury?

The staff in charge will do a first aid treatment. If additional treatment is called for, we will contact hospitals. However, the participating group should provide the transportation to the hospital.

How many adults need to accompany the group?

We recommend more than one for the program consisting of high school students or under.
Participating in the program or only supervising is up to you.

How about the fees for the adults?

As for the group of kids, one adult per 29 kids is free of charge.
However, if you choose the fishing program, you would have to pay a fishing fee.

Mark Schreiber was born in 1960 in Cincinnati, Ohio and has been writing unrelentingly since he graduated high school at the age of fifteen. A few works have made it into print, including a nonfiction adventure, Dreams of the Solo Trapeze: Offstage With the Cirque du Soleil. His first novel, Princes in Exile, set at a summer camp for kids with cancer, was published in ten countries and made into a film.

大田区・（公財）大田区産業振興協会が主催する「第3回おおた研究・開発フェア－産学連携・新技術展」が10月3日開幕した。

会場の大田区産業プラザPiO・大展示ホールには、全国から企業・大学・研究機関ら88団体、92小間が集まった。
出展者はいずれも、担当部署が、これはと思う研究や開発を情報収集し、自ら足を運んで、参加を呼びかけたもの。

Oota Prefecture and The Association to Promote the Industry in Oota Prefecture(APIOP) have jointly hosted "The 3rd Oota Research and Development Fair-Industry/Academia Collaboration・New Technology Expo" which opened on October 3rd.

At its large event hall in the Oota Industry Plaza PiO where it is held, 88 of the industries, universities, research organizations from all over Japan were spread into 92 rooms. Persons in charge have worked hard to promote the participation by studying their researches and by collecting information. Mr. Nakayama from the APIOP said he wanted the people to say "If you go to Oota Prefecture, you can find the future technology"

日本自動車工業会（豊田章男会長）は、第43回東京モーターショー2013開催の前週である11月16日・17日の土日と、モーターショー開催中（11月23日～12月１日）に、東京・台場でクルマやバイクのイベント「お台場モーターフェス」を実施することを発表した。
今回、新たな取組みとして開催するもので、ファン層の拡大、自動車産業の振興をはじめとする日本経済の活性化を目的にしたもの。
車のパレードや世界的パフォーマーが魅せるクルマ・バイクのサーカス、シルク・ド・モビなどが開催される。

JAMA(Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.) headed by President Akio Toyoda has announced that they will be holding "Odaiba Motor Festival" on November 16(Sat) and 17(Sun) and the week of the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show 2013 (Nov 23~Dec 1).
The festival includes the events for cars and motorcycles. This is the first time to host such event and they are aiming to expand the age group of the car fanatics and to promote the automotive industry which eventually leads to the revitalization of Japanese economy. There will be automobile parade as well as the performance by Cirque de Mobi which is a vehicle version of the circus.

The service is ideal for glamorous one-time evening bags that people wouldn’t normally buy. Meikka also aims to transform their services to a pre-sales experience for luxury handbags for everyday wear.

The company planned to establish cooperation relationship with luxury brands and become a sales channel, because the customers may eventually buy the product if they like the rented ones.

プログラムにおいて、担当する指導者がデジタルカメラで活動の写真を撮影します。メールまたはCDによりデータとして無料でお渡しします

活動記録写真ではありませんので、活動時間全体に対し詳細な部分での撮影ではありません

The instructor in charge of the program takes the photos of the activities. It will be free of charge and it comes in the data form to be sent by mail or by CD.

This is not done as recording purposes so some detailed shots might be missed. There may be a chance that not all the participants will be in the photo. Please also be noted that in case only one instructor is present, he or she may be too busy keeping the safety of the participants and there won't be a chance to take photos. The quality of the shots will not be guaranteed. The data will be ready in 10 to 14 days.

Opera, the company behind the Opera and Opera Mini browser, has just launched a new mobile browser for the iPad called Coast. The project first started off when Huib Kleinhout, an engineer and team manager at Opera, proposed to the president of engineering to build a browser specifically for mobile devices. He believed that browsers brought too much of their desktop legacy to the mobile, from the back and forward buttons to the URL search bar.

なぜVimeoのOperaブラウザーからiPad用に新しいブラウザーを作成したのか。

Huib comes from a village called Varik, in the Netherlands that has a population of about 2,000. Built a hundred meters from a river, the village had to be evacuated when waters threatened to wipe out the area in 1995. Huib studied at Eindhoven and graduated with a masters in technology and society, a hybrid between social and technical sciences, completing his thesis at Philips Research. His design-focused time at Eindhoven and Philips Research inspired him.

“In this environment, thousands of engineers are working on R&D projects and it was all about inventing new stuff.”

Huib is also a co-inventor of some patents for Philips Research that formed the basis of multi-touch.

What drove Head of Coast by Opera, Huib Kleinhout, to redesign the mobile Internet browser?

The browser wars have long been waged, leaving behind casualties like Netscape. With the emergence of mobile devices, this fight has been given a new battlefield. Apple and Google have been consistently trying to outplay each other, providing ways for users to seamlessly bring their browsing activities across all devices. Meanwhile, other players, like Dolphin, are hoping to serve different user demands.

There has been an issue of protecting one's personal information and we have seen some cases in which mutual efforts can not be expected. This is, however, the company policy to take precautions.
