Uber is coming to Bangkok

We’ve once reported that according to jobs listings, Uber was preparing to launch in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong. And we were right. Uber is now live in Shanghai, and it’s safe to assume that Beijing and Hong Kong operations will begin soon.

The same thing is happening in Bangkok. Two weeks ago, Allen Penn, the head of Asia operations at Uber, held a small meetup at Hubba, a co-working space in Bangkok, to talk about his company. We also recently found job listings for two positions for Uber’s Bangkok office – general manager and operations and logistics manager.

Zookal raises US$550K for student textbook rental portal, eyes SEA

Australia’s student textbook rental site, Zookal, has just raised US$550,000 in its latest investment round and is eyeing Southeast Asia next.

Sydney-based textbook rental company Zookal has just announced its latest funding round of US$550,000 led by former chief financial officer of US student hub Chegg, Omer Regev, who is currently the CFO of Gemini Israel Venture Funds, and Silicon Valley’s Filtro Investments. This round brings total the investment in the company to US$1.98 million.

Tencent Launched Vine-Like Short Video App WeShow

Tencent released WeShow, a Vine-like short video sharing app where users can create and post video clips or share these videos to friends on social networking services under Tencent. The lengths of the video clip span from two seconds to eight seconds (report in Chinese).

WeShow supports the login of three kinds of Tencent accounts, namely Tencent Weibo, QQ and QQ Mail. In addition, WeShow account will follow users’ QQ friends automatically. Both of these two services are not available for WeChat accounts. But WeShow users can share their videos to Tencent Weibo and WeChat friends.

WeShow has invited a lot of stars to establish accounts on the platform to attract more audiance. The service is currently only available for iOS platform. Industry insiders disclosed that Tencent has kicked of the research and development of this project at the beginning of this year.

An employee of Tencent claimed that WeShow is different from its namesake that Tencent launched in 2011. The old WeShow is cross-platform video call software based on QQ contacts.

IndoTrading is a marketplace website focused on business-to-business deals. The target market of IndoTrading is small to medium companies who are not well-versed in online marketing. IndoTrading is quite similar to China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba, which inspired founder of IndoTrading Handy Chang to make the Indonesian website. It took first place of the best graduates in this batch.

3. Codemi
