Vietnam is Asia’s New Tech Manufacturing Hub

It all started in 2010. Intel built its $1 billion chip manufacturing plant in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. Vietnam’s electronic manufacturing dream had arrived. Gone would be the days of textile and food exporting. People were saying hello to a hi-tech Vietnam.

But later in 2011 and early 2012, the dream was dwindling, as the economy was shot and there was an environment that didn’t play well for foreign investors, and that was turning people off.

Of course, the most significant newcomers in this list are Samsung and Nokia. Nokia is still the dominant player in the Vietnamese mobile market and Samsung contributes 10 percent of Vietnam’s exports.

Besides Nokia, most of these electronics manufacturers are from South Korea and Japan. The main draw for companies from these two countries is the low labor wages. In some cases, Vietnamese workers can be paid as little as one-third of Chinese labor costs. Cheap labor is Vietnam’s new brand.

And so armed with this low-cost labor, Vietnam will soon become known for hi-tech manufacturing. Textiles are no longer Vietnam’s biggest export. With small companies like Setech Viet building small consumer domestic products and bigger companies like TOSY building robots for the global market, we’re on the cusp of a hardware-oriented Vietnam. I wouldn’t be surprised if by 2016, a major Vietnamese hardware maker will build and operate its own factory.[1]

The start draw for the 2013 SCORE Desert Series opener determined the starting order within each of the various classes in the elapsed-time race.
Drawing the first starting slot for the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars was Justin Matney of Bristol, Va. Riding the first ATV off the line will be Class 25 team led by hometown racer Felipe Veliz of San Felipe.
With 35 entries so far in the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 850 horsepower, unlimited production trucks, Weyhrich, 43, whose brother Gary Weyhrich drew the 25th starting position, drives the No. 9 TSCO Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy Truck.

Hi I received the lens back from the camera repair store and I can now put on the new filter as the old existing one hat to be cut and rotated forward and backward to remoove the old filter as it was not only cross threaded to the lens but jambed against the lenses rubberised stop with some minor issie that i can live with but the cost of the new filter Hoya pro 1 D cost $29.00 AU and the repairer billed me only $70.00, hope you will come to some arangement with me or part payment as the lens is now workable, sorry for the time but the repairer was the issue of time, I took it to the repairer under your instructions and now i hope we can arrange a workable outcome together as I know it was not your fault also

Ipod/iPhone Dock. You will need the adapter for iPhone 5 lightening connection, this works with all iPod's/iPhones prior to the 5. I just got my iPhone 5 and am just plugging it in to the wall charger and using the auxiliary input which works fine as well, but defeats the purpose of the dock.


I am selling since all I use it for is with my iPhone and now that I bought the iPhone 5, I am going to look into other Bose options...I love the sound and performance for sure!

This Chinese Startup Wants to Bring You a 3D-Printed, Smartphone-Controlled Drone [VIDEO]

We don’t find hardware startups in China as often as we’d like – but we’ve stumbled across what looks like the coolest we’ve ever seen. The team of tinkerers and ‘makers’ behind AngelEyes is prepping crowdfunding for its upcoming HeX Air Robot, a smartphone-controlled drone that looks like some sinister stealth helicopter (pictured above).

Team member George Liu tells us that the HeX Air Robot (see it in flight in the video below) will soon drone its way onto Kickstarter to raise funds to evolve and then manufacture the flying machine. Until that launches, the globally-minded Chinese startup has a couple of software platforms to sell, as well as a huge fascination with 3D printing to keep everyone occupied. To find out more, we fired him a few questions:

How did AngelEyes come to life, and how many products do you have right now?

George: AngelEyes came to life from the vision to propel the democratization of technological innovation. Before AngelEyes existed, we did some projects purely on software and they failed eventually. But now the tide is turning, and it is becoming easier and affordable for individuals to manufacture things on their desktops, which means hardware can be as easily iterated as software, and the cost of going through several lifecycles of hardware manufacturing decreases dramatically.

AngelEyesの誕生と、今現在の製品数について教えてください。

George: AngelEyesは、技術革新の大衆化を促すビジョンの下、誕生しました。AngelEyesを設立する前、ソフトウェアだけのプロジェクトを幾つか手掛けていましたが、結局は失敗に終わりました。しかし今、世の中の流れは変わりつつあります。デスクトップを使っての物作りが、個人レベルでも簡単になり、費用もかからなくなってきています。つまり、ハードウェアもソフトウェアと同様に、条件を満たすまで繰り返し挑戦できる様になりました。これによって、ハードウェアを何度も作り直すコストが、劇的に減りました。

Plus, crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter unfolded a new way to finance tech startups. That’s pretty much the context how we plunge into projects that can integrate software and hardware. So far, besides HeX, we’ve got two other cloud services: ‘AR Generating‘ and ‘Pattern Recognition’.

さらに、Kickstarterの様なクラウドファンディングのプラットフォームによって、テック系スタートアップには、資金を調達する新しい方法ができました。これが現時点での、ハードウェアとソフトウェアを統合するプロジェクトへの関わり方です。今のところ我々には、HeX以外に、2つのクラウドサービス、‘AR Generating’と‘Pattern Recognition’があります。

When will your HeX Air Robot be for sale, and how could it be used?

George: Actually there are several stages in the development of HeX. The first stage, which we are on now, [means we’ve] finished the first prototype of it and we’re improving it. We plan to sell it on Kickstarter.com, which we estimate might happen at the end of January, to raise funds for the next stages of evolution. With the money we could raise, we’re going to add some sensors and an airborne computer on HeX to make it able to avoid obstacles automatically. Ultimately, we plan to mount a camera on it (pictured below) and make it able to track a moving target and film it so that extreme-sports fans can use it as an aerial filming kit.
