Online car rental marketplace Drive.SG launches mobile app

Paul Tan, Co-founder of Drive.SG, hopes that the mobile app would help business grow as he targets reaching some 5,000 car rental days per month by end of 2014.

Drive.SG, a Singapore-based online car rental marketplace, today announced that it has released its mobile app on both iOS and Android platforms, after seeing 60 percent of its customers access the web portal via their smartphones in mid-2013.

First launched in September 2011 in the city-state, the web portal sells about 2,000 car rental days per month. It serves traditional businesses like Avis, Sixt, Eurokas and 30 other partners, and customers like local drivers and overseas visitors.

With the new mobile app, customers can now get recommendations from Drive.SG for the nearest car rental agency, which facilitates picking up and dropping off of vehicles, thanks to the geo-location feature implemented.

The app has also been tested with regular customers. Muhammad Asri bin Mailah, the very first customer who booked a car on the mobile app, said, “I prefer to use my mobile phone when renting a car on Drive.SG’s site, mainly because I book my car late at night. This is when the day has slowed down and I have the time to view different cars, in discussion with my wife.”

He added that he rents a car five to six times in a year for overseas trips to neighboring country, Malaysia, or getting guests around during the holiday season.

Paul Tan, co-founder of Drive.SG, said that the company has been constantly finding new ways to improve its service, mainly with features that provide a better customer experience. “For example, a few months ago, we introduced a new chauffeur service, targeting businesses that require luxury cars, mini-buses and coaches,” he said. “Together with our newly-launched mobile app, we hope to see a strong growth in our business, and are targeting to reach some 5,000 car rental days per month by end 2014."

Another co-founder, Adrian Lee, told e27 that they are currently in talks with some companies in Malaysia, and should announce the partnership deals by end-2013.

Incubated by NUS Enterprise, Drive.SG is located within the National University of Singapore School of Computing incubator. Drive.SG also leveraged on a partnership with Silicon Straits Saigon, who worked with the team to co-develop their mobile app.
