South Korean startups have been given the green light, and the nation has become one of the key startup hubs in Asia. After the dot.com bubble burst, few people dared to start their own business. However, some internet portals and 0nline game companies survived the downturn to became so-called “Unicorns“, companies valued at over US$1 billion, leading the stream of success stories. Then a new generation of startups emerged around 2010, and now the country has over 1,000 startups according to a map of the field by Rocket Punch.

1. Gangnam is a hot place for tech startups as well as tourists

If you are thinking of visiting Seoul to check out the startup scene, I recommend you visit Gangnam. Yes, it’s the name from that famous song. Gangnam district is the commercial center and is now becoming a hub for startups. Most Accelerators, co-working spaces and startups are now located in Teheran-ro, creating synergy. D.camp and Maru180 are well known co-working spaces for startups, launched by Banks Association and Asan Nanum Foundation respectively. The first Google campus in Asia and Naver’s Accelerator will also open in Gangnam next year.

First-of-its-kind mobile governance platform

A couple of weeks ago, Indian president Pranab Mukherjee launched the country’s first and arguably world’s largest multi-mode mobile governance platform in Karnataka state. The citizens of Karnataka can use this platform called Karnataka MobileOne to pay utility bills and property tax, book railway and bus tickets, file income tax, avail of mobile passport and driving license services, and access other government and private sector schemes. “These anytime, anywhere, anyhow services will be available 24x7x365 days at any location in the state on any mobile device,” the government claims, adding that it is “future-proof.”

Many internet startups have just got going in India and a lot is riding on the hope that prime minister Narendra Modi and the IT minister Ravishankar Prasad keep the daily promises they’ve been dishing out. “India has 900 million mobile phones and 3 billion internet connections. We have to make them more effective and accessible to promote entrepreneurship,” said Prasad during a visit to Kerala’s Startup Village in Kochi yesterday.

The Indian startup scene brightened up this year, with the top 30 startups raising over US$4 billion from investors. It’s easy to imagine how much better 2015 would get if basic infrastructure issues are sorted out.

Gradle is a project automation tool that builds upon the concepts of Apache Ant and Apache Maven and introduces a Groovy-based domain-specific language instead of the more traditional XML form of declaring the project configuration.
Unlike Apache Maven, which defines lifecycles, and Apache Ant, where targets are invoked based upon a depends-on partial ordering, Gradle uses a directed acyclic graph ("DAG") to determine the order in which tasks can be run.
Gradle was designed for multi-project builds which can grow to be quite large, and supports incremental builds by intelligently determining which parts of the build tree are up-to-date, so that any task dependent upon those parts will not need to be re-executed.
