今日のNGWの出発地点はこの富士河口浅間神社です。この神社は富士山をまつっている神社です。今日は自然の中を歩くことがメインテーマですが、ここでレクチャーをするのにはちゃんと理由があります
この神社の祭神は浅間大神といいます。
名を木花咲耶姫命と言います。木花咲耶姫命は大変綺麗なお姫様の神様で、日本という国を作った奈良の大和という国に嫁いだのだそうです。また、木花咲耶姫命は富士山の化身とされていて、そのため富士山をまつっているこの浅間神社の祭神となっています。

Today's NGW departure site is this Fuji-Kawaguchi Asama Shinto Shrine. This shrine is dedicated to Mt. Fuji. Today the image theme is walking through nature but there's a reason for lecturing here.
The deity enshrined at this shrine is called an Asama god.
Her name is Konohanasakuya-hime no mikoto. She is an extremely beautiful princess god and is said to be married to the country of Yamato of Nara, which created this country known as Japan. She is personified as Mt. Fuji and so for that reason she is the deity of this Asama shrine dedicated to Mt. Fuji.

実は富士山は3階建です。一体、どういう事なのか？
今から10万年以上前、いまの伊豆半島は現在のハワイ辺りにありました。それが段々と北に移動してきて日本の本州にぶつかり、盛り上がって山が出来ました。その時に出来た山が富士山の1階になる小御岳です。その後、今から10万年～1万年以上前に、小御岳の脇で何度も大きな噴火がありました。繰り返し噴出した溶岩は冷えて固まり積み重なっていきました。このようにして出来たのが今の富士山の原型で2階部分となる古富士です。

As a matter of fact, Mt. Fuji is 3 stories. But what on earth does that mean?
100,000 years ago from today, what is now Izu Peninsula was next to present-day Hawaii. It gradually moved to the north and bumped into Japan's Honshuu island, which created the mountains. At that time Mt. Fuji was a little mountain one-story high. Afterwards, between 100,000 and 10,000 years ago, there were many large eruptions close to the small mountain. The repeatedly spurting lava cooled and layered on top of one another. In this way Mt. Fuji because two-stories and took on its current appearance.

そして今から約1万年前、火山活動が起こって新富士と言われる現在の富士山が出来ました。
このように繰り返し火山活動が起こって出来た富士山ですが、864年にも大噴火が起こりました。この噴火は寄生火山や側火山といわれる、本火口以外からの噴火で
長尾山という富士山山頂の北西からの噴火でした。
これを貞観の噴火といい、この噴火で流れ出た溶岩は河口湖の方まで流れてきたそうです。その様子を見ていた人々は、自分達も溶岩に飲まれてしまうと不安に思い、噴火を鎮めてもらうため河口浅間神社を建てたそうです

And then about 10,000 years ago, the "new" Mt. Fuji--modern-day Mt. Fuji--came about from lots of volcanic activity.
This repetitious volcanic activity created Mt. Fuji but in 864 there was also a major eruption. These eruptions didn't come from the main crater but rather came from "parasite volcanoes," eruptions from Mt. Nagao, which is northwest of Mt. Fuji.
These were eruptions from the Jougan era (859-877) and it's said that the lava that flowed from these eruptions flowed down to Lake Kawaguchi. The people who saw it were worried they too would be swallowed up by lava and are said to have built Asama Shrine to calm the eruptions.

このように、富士山の鎮火の祈りが込められているのがこの浅間神社です。ちなみに、浅間というのは古い言葉で火山を意味します。（日本全国にも浅間という地名がありますが、いずれも現在、もしくは過去に火山活動があったことを意味しています。）
ここで、今から行く母の白滝ですが、この滝は今お話したことと深い関わりがあります。
富士山は先程の話のように昔から恐れ敬われている山なので、ご利益を求めて数多くの人達が参拝するために登っていました。これを登拝といいます。

As such, this Asama Shrine is filled with prayers to extinguish Mt. Fuji. Incidentally, "Asama" is an old word that means "volcano." (There are places all around Japan called "asama" and either now or in the past this meant they had volcanic activity.)
Now we're going to Haha no Shirataki, which has a deep connection to the story I told today.
As my story shows, Mt. Fuji has been a feared and respected mountain since long ago and so many people seeking its blessing climb it to pay homage at the shrine. This is known as "touhai."

神聖な場所に参拝に行くには世間の穢れを落としてから行かなければならないので、川や滝で身を清める必要がありました。
その清めの場として使われていたのが、母の白滝でした。
そうして、この辺りは富士山登拝のために身を清めに来た人達が多く訪れるようになり、やがて宿場として栄えるようになりました。
その宿場一帯に住んでいて、身を清めに来た人達の世話をしたり、神社を管理したりしていたのが御師という神主の集団でした。このように、この河口湖周辺や富士山の自然は人々の生活と深く結びついているのです

In order to visit a sacred place you must wash the sins of the world from you so it was necessary to purify yourself in the river or waterfall.
Haha no Shirataki was used as one such purification spot.
And because many people would come to this area to purify themselves so the could climb Mt. Fuji, it wasn't long before a town prospered here.
There was a group of priests known as "oshi" who lived in this region, taking care of those who came to purify themselves and managing the shrine. In this way they deeply connected the lives of humans with the area surrounding Lake Kawaguchi and the nature around Mt. Fuji.

I ate unagi with my family at our favorite restaurant.

Speaking of cooking unagi, "unajuu" and "hitsumabushi" are famous in Japan.

You mix the unagi with a sweet tare sauce while cooking it over a charcoal fire.

"Unajuu" is cooked unagi eaten over rice with a secret tare sauce poured on top.

I think the unagi at this restaurant is the best in Japan.

"Hitsumabushi" is thinly sliced unagi with rice moved to a rice bowl eaten with dashi broth poured over it and topped with wasabi and seaweed.

外函に経年によるヤケ、汚れ、捲れ破れ、シミ有。
本体見返しから数ページに経年によるシミ有。見返しに書店販売時のシール貼付有。
その他は状態良好。

This teddy bear was displayed at home (not played with). The glass is unused. There's a tiny bit of dirt inside the box.

"Paris," a collection of photographs by Ihei Kimura. This collection was taken in Paris during the 50s. It's unique for its pale, soft colors for the pictures were taken with the first color film. This is a masterpiece photo collection from 40 years ago. It's first edition and even has the booklet with it, making it extremely rare. There is some sun damage, stains, curled or ripped pages, and dirt from years outside its box.
Several pages show their age from its endpaper. On the endpaper is the seal pasted on at the time it was purchased from the bookstore.
Other than that it's in very good condition.
