In your opinion, how has the tech startup ecosystem in Indonesia grown over the past year? What major changes have you seen in the last six months?

The Indonesia Startup scene did not grow as fast as expected. We haven’t reached a critical point where businesses can make a lot of money from web services yet. But I am seeing startups starting to pay attention to business models. They are now attempting to work on having some kind of money making plans. Last year I saw startups being more product oriented, however I think this is changing.

The best example is probably tiket.com, whose solid business model now puts it where it is today. The site is growing rapidly and aims to be the one stop travel and entertainment ticketing service here.

Another example is maybe Harpoen. Not so much on monetization but at least they have shown great improvement over the last couple of months. They are a new concept for location based service. They are constantly innovating their product user experience.

Parts firm ETrade Supply posts several photos of what it believes to be a legitimate display from Apple's forthcoming "iPad mini" set for introduction at next Tuesday's media event.The display is said to be of the same 4:3 aspect ratio of the full-size iPad and measures 162 mm x 124 mm.

Text on the back of the display suggests that the part was manufactured by LG Display, and text on the ribbon cable extending from the display is also consistent with labeling on genuine Apple parts.

ETrade Supply has also posted several photos of an iPad mini battery, which appears to be identical to the part shared by MacRumors earlier this week with the exception of the Apple part number.

Following ETrade Supply's posting of the iPad mini display photos, French site Nowhereelse.fr posted its own photo [Google translation] of what has been claimed to be the iPad mini display in quality testing.The site received the photo last week and was unable to verify with any degree of confidence that the part was indeed an iPad mini display, but with the actual part now having been shared by ETrade Supply, similarities in the mounting points for the two displays suggest that the display being tested may indeed be for the iPad mini.

A slew of peer-to-peer rideshare services have gained popularity in parts of Asia in recent years, a sign that entrepreneurs are bullish that such businesses can become sustainable in their respective markets.

In Singapore, web portals like TompangBuddy and CarpoolKing have long existed as a meetup point for those who are eager to carpool.

However, the scene there is turning a corner. A second wave of rideshare services have gotten significant press coverage. A departure from Dot-Com type enterprises, many of these new startups are mobile-friendly and offer user interfaces that are more suited to modern sensibilities.

These startups can be categorized into carshare and cabshare services. Some straddle both.

They are currently building a network of cars and car owners, and testing out a system that enables keyless entry, fuel management, an anti-theft feature, and other bells and whistles. The startup will take a 15% cut of each rental transaction. Car insurance will be included (read more on e27).

Both apps use in-app credit purchases to generate revenue. They are facing competition from CabCorner.com, an American startup that recently launched its services in Singapore.

Tenpay Partners With Weixin: Launching QR Code Payment and Shake-It Transfer

On the 7th anniversary of Tenpay(the online payment service by Tencent), the GM of the company announced that the company would start collaboration with Tencent’s IM service Weixin and its B2C arm. This 7-year-old company (founded in April 2005) currently has over 190 million users, partnering with about 400,000 merchants covering games, travels, B2C, insurance, steel, funds and cross-border industries. The services it provides include installment, entrustment, Epos payment, quick pay, and in 2011 its online trading volume reached over RMB 450billion.

TurboVote is a non-profit that is subsidized by universities, such as the University of Florida, Harvard University and University of North Carolina at Charlotte, that want to offer the platform’s service to their students. the company recently announced its twenty-fifth university partnership.
