General foreign language abilities by the public.

Japan's pretty great on services and facilities (except that most people have trouble accessing them if they can't speak and read some Japanese, in my experience). Japan lacks in a healthy work life. Either you end up like me, a perpetual contract worker with low pay because you're a foreigner and the company only fully hires Japanese workers, or you end up like my husband, who works endless hours of overtime (which is now affecting his physical health). We've already known people who have "died from overwork" here. That shouldn't even be a thing. We're thinking about leaving, because I don't want that to be my husband, too.
