アシスタントは左程レベルが高くなくても、採用されます。一番重視されるのは先生と相性が合いそうかどうか性格的なもの、次に技術力です。
漫画講座のある学校や大学へ入学して、そこでスキルアップするのも良いですね。
今ちょっと漫画を学べる学校を調べてみました。
（英語検索が苦手なので全部日本の学校ですが、すみません）

周囲に何を言われようと、いちいち相手にしては駄目です。アニメや漫画業界は非常に歴史が長いですし、熱意さえあればちゃんと道は用意されています。国籍も年齢も関係ないですよ。

It would be a good idea to skill up by attending Manga lessons at school or university.
I have just now checked a school or so, where you can study manga.
(I am not good at checking in English, they are all Japanese schools, I am sorry.)

What people around you say, you had better ignore them. As animation and manga industries have a long history, and if you have your guts, there is a way. Your nationality and age are nothing to do with them.
