Crowd Funding In Japan -- A cross between a digital comic and Ukiyoe art from Yuta Kayashima, a new manga artist who has been gaining attention at media art festivals.

プロジェクトの投稿者は、イラストの仕事をしながら漫画家を目指している萱島雄太氏。学生時代よりデジタルと漫画を融合させる試みを実施し、Adobe Flashで制作した「Manga2.0」、「HACK TO THE BRAIN」の二作が、文化庁メディア芸術祭にて審査委員会推薦作品に選出された他、現在は誰でも電子書籍を作成・販売できるサイト「ブクログのパプー」にて縦スクロールに特化させた縦長デジタルコミック「西遊少女」を配信している。

The author of the project is Yuta Kayashima, who wants to become a cartoonist working as an illustrator. He has attempted to combine digital technology and Manga since his school days. His two works 'Manga2.0' and 'HACK TO THE BRAIN', created in Adobe Flash was elected as the eligible works by judging committee at Cultural Affairs Agency's Art Festival. Besides, he currently delivers vertical scroll-specialized digital comic 'Saiyu Shoyo' in 'Booklog's Papuu', the website which allows anyone to creat and sell digital books.

The contributor of the project, Yuta Kayashima, was working as an illustrator while aiming to be a manga artist. Since he was a student, he has been experimenting with combining manga and digital technology. His combination of "Manga 2.0" and "Hack to the brain", made in Adobe Flash, was chosen by the judge committee for the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs. Also, he has distributed a specialized vertically written comic called "Saiyu Shojo" (A young girl's westward trip) on the site "Booklog", a site that anyone can currently make and sell ebooks on.
同氏は、2013年1月〜3月の期間にメキシコで開催される浮世絵をテーマにした現代美術の展示に参加できることに。その展示では、プロジェクターに投影した作品を鑑賞者にマウスで操作してもらう、インタラクティブ・コミックとでも呼ぶべきインスタレーションを展示予定。

From January to March 2013, Mr Kayashima will participate in a modern art exhibition with an Ukiyoe theme held in Mexico. He is planning to make a so-called "interactive comic", whereby the audience will be able to use a mouse to perform operations on the exhibit, displayed through a projector.

Now he will be able to participate in the Exposition of modern art under the theme of Ukiyo-e. In the exposition, he is planning to display an installation which may be called as an 'interactive comics', that allows viewers to operate the works displayed on the projector with the mouse.

『浮世絵美人の三姉妹が現代へタイムスリップ。しかし現代では浮世絵ではなく、アニメ系キャラが美人とされていた。現代でも美人として認められたいと嫉妬した三姉妹は現代的美しさを求め、様々なキャラからパーツを奪い、それぞれ競うように自らの姿を変貌させていく….』
今回、その展示に必要な渡航費・制作費などを広くご支援して頂ければと思い、このプロジェクトを立ち上げた。
目標金額は¥250,000に設定された同プロジェクトは、2012/11/03にSUCCESSし、パトロンの募集を終了した。

“Three sisters of Ukiyoe-beauties travel through a time warp to the modern times. But in the modern times, Ukiyoe-beauties are no longer considered as beauties, instead animation characters are regarded as beauty. Out of jealousy, the three sisters want to be recognized as beauties in the morden times as well. They start to seek morden beauty by stealing parts from various animation characters and change their features as if they compete with each other.”
I have set up this fundraising campaign with a hope that I can get support widely in order to cover the travel and production costs needed to the exhibition.
