日本の職人にはシャイな人が多いです。
基本的にしゃべりません。
だけど、そこに内在されてた仕事に対する哲学はとても深いです。
職人の世界は弟子に教えると言う行為をしません。
基本的に仕事をしながら親方に怒られて弟子は仕事を覚えます。
弟子は親方の仕事のやり方を、盗んで覚えます。
弟子は仕事をさせてもらう前に、作業場の掃除や道具の手入れをします。
仕事をさせてもらう前が大変なのです。
今では、その風習は和らぎ、私も直接親方から教わりましたが、親方から昔の話を聞くと凄みを感じます。

私の親方の教え方は、例えばのりの濃さを教えるときも、のりと水を何対何で薄めるという言い方をせず、親方がのりを作って、指で触らせて
「これくらいで作るんだ」
と感覚的に覚えるように促します。
ただ、これだと私はすぐに忘れてしまいます（笑）
現在は表具の技法の関連書籍も出版されているので、そこで復習しています。
