Kyoto began its thousand year history in 794, when Emperor Kammu re-established his capital as 'Heian-kyo'.
Central Kyoto
This part of town includes the districts Kiyachou, Pontochou, Kin'ichi, and Miyako no Daidokoro (Kitchens of the capital).
North Kyoto
Here, you will find scenic gardens dotted with shrines and temples in a glorious natural setting.
South Kyoto
In this area of the city, you can experience first hand Kyoto's wealth of history, in an urban backdrop.
West Kyoto
The west of the city is known for the refined temples and shrines of Arashiyama and Sagano, as well as the famous Kinkakuji temple. It is also known as a prime spot for viewing the cherry blossoms in Spring and momiji in Autumn.
Rakutou
The 'Flower Road of Gion' is here, as well as shops selling traditional food of the capital. You may also happen across a geisha.
