これはアメリカでいうところのUPCコードに相当し、
日本の流通製品には、ほぼ全てこのバーコードが割り振られています。
目的は、商品の流通をスムーズにするためです。

This is unrelated but I was wondering if I could assign a barcode which is called JAN code on each item?
JAN code is a Japanese UPC code and most products sold in Japan have this.
This is to make distribution smoother.
