国内初の「ISO20121」認証イベントへ向け取組み表明
世界トライアスロンシリーズ横浜大会組織委員会は、9月29日・30日に開催する同大会で、「ISO20121」取得に向け取り組んでいることを発表した。取得すれば、国内初の「ISO20121」認証イベントとなる。
「ISO20121」は、国際標準化機構（ISO）が、6月15日に「イベントマネジメントの持続可能性に関する国際標準規格」として新たに発行したもの。世界では、ロンドンオリンピックが、この規格に準じて計画を進めている。 取得に向けては、「環境」、「社会性」、「経済性」の3つの要素の目標値等を自らが設定し、認定機関の評価を受けることが必要。
大会組織委員会では、次のような取組みを行なうとしている。
（１）「環境」への取組み（環境負荷への提言や生物多様性への取組みなどにより評価される）:グリーントライアスロンと名付け、8月に、スイム会場となる山下公園前の海底清掃、同公園の清掃など1か月前イベント等の活動に取り組む。
（２）「社会性」への取組み （社会性については、大会が、地域や社会に貢献し、地域の協力を得て行なわれていることにより評価される）:世界のトップクラスの選手と多くの市民が参加できる大会とし、地域や社会のスポーツ振興に寄与できる大会として運営する。さらに、この大会をボランティア等地域の協力を得て、運営していくこと等で「社会性」をアピール。
（３）「経済性」への取組み（経済性では、大会の健全な運営（経営）と地域へ経済波及効果等が求められる）:これまで、大会資金の確保のため、積極的な協賛活動に取り組んでいる。 また、地域経済への波及効果は、この大会を開催することで多くの参加者や観戦者が横浜を訪れ、宿泊や食事等での経費消費に大きな期待ができる。
「ISO20121」取得のメリットを大会組織委員会では、（１）地球環境に配慮した大会の開催が期待できる、（２）大会が持続可能な方法で計画され実行されていることが検証できる、（３）国内はもとより海外でも国際標準規格を取得した大会として評価され、大会の開催とともに横浜のスポーツイベントに取り組む先進性を世界に発信することができる、 （４）大会のブランドイメージの向上が図れ、スポンサー企業にとっても大会に協賛することがCSR（企業の社会的責任）活動とも位置付けることができる、としている。
審査の対象は、『2012世界トライアスロンシリーズ横浜大会』のイベントと、大会組織員会及び関連団体などのイベントに携わる組織で、世界最大級の認証機関であるSGSジャパン（株）が認証機関となる。
認証機関による審査は二段階。
7月から8月にかけては第一段階審査として規格要求事項に沿った大会運営の仕組みができているかを確認する。 大会当日も含む9月には第二段階審査として第一段階審査で確認した仕組みが効果的に実行されているか等のを確認。審査にって認証されれば、大会終了後に認証機関から審査登録証（認証書）が交付される。
