Such was the corporate enthusiasm for know-how that several companies created the job of chief knowledge officer. Xerox Corporation, General Electric, and Hewlett-Packard were just some of the serious-minded companies that attempted to corral ideas and know-how. For Bill Gates there was far less reason to take action on the knowledge front; he had already been successfully capturing and utilizing knowledge at Microsoft for over two decades.
