In those days traditional Japanese houses were here and there, the construction of western houses had the meanings of the creation of unusual space around there.
Actually few western constructions were used for the ordinary houses. The houses with tall ceiling and less openness did not suit much for the Japanese climate because of much different temperature through the year with lots of rain and humidity.
Among recent street full of western buildings by brand new technology, a western house is not a typical existence.
However recently many people are still fascinated not by its extraordinary exposure but by the evaluation of its historical meanings.

Back in those days, building Seiyo-kan on the street where traditional Japanese style housing were seen was also much like creating unknown unusual space.
However, western architecture was rarely used to build general housing. Owing to its structure having a high ceiling and little openness was ill-suited for Japanese climate, whose yearly temperature swings wildly and pluvious and wet.
Now that, we can see a large number of western-style buildings using leading-edge technology on the street, the appearance of Seiyo-kan is not so much special. Despite the fact, they still attract a great number of people not because of their unique appearance but because their historical meaning is valued.
