マイクロメータの歴史
ねじを回転させながらその移動距離を測って物の長さを測定しようとする 方法の実用化は、十七世紀イギリスのガスコインに始まり、ワットを経て、１８０５年のモーズレーに至る。
念入りに製作されたモーズレーのマイクロメータは、１万分の１インチまで測定できるものであった。
ロンドンの英国博物館に現存するものについて１９１８年に測定したところ、ほとんど変化がなかったといわれる。
