五重塔の内部は、相輪（そうりん）という塔の先端部を支持する「心柱」だけが一本でつながっています。
つまり真ん中は、吹抜けの中空構造になっていて、心柱は、塔体から構造的に独立しているのです。
五重塔が倒れない理由として一説には、心柱が振子となって揺れを押さえる効果があると考えられています。
そこで、スカイツリーの内部も吹き抜けにして、そこに心柱を設置することになりました。

Five stories of the inside of the pagota are connected only by Shin-bashira(central pillar) that supports the top part of the tower which is called Sorin.
In other words, the ceter has a open hollow structure and Shin-bashira is structurallyindependent from the tower body.

In other words, there is no ceiling where it is structured hollow, and the central pillar is independent of the pagoda in structure.
