I recommend using parts that are as light as possible. There is no need to be overly concerned with center of balance.
Speaking from experience, I recommend keeping it sturdy while making it as light as possible. Billet parts are pretty neat, though (lol).
In the near future, I don't think there is a need to increase the total weight and add expensive parts to increase the engine's power.
I don't use a carbon chassis, but a portion of the rear bumper breaks easily, so I think it is worth considering how to reinforce it.
When I think about all of the money I've spent on Baja I feel like I'm going to faint (lol!). I might be able to buy a car for that much (lol)

Concerning the parts, I recommend you to use ligher items as much as possible. You don't have to sorry too much about the gravity point.
From my experience, I think you'd better seek to make a break-proof and weight saving car, although billet parts are attractive :).
I think you don't have to use high-priced reinforcing parts up to gain total weight and soup up.
I don't use carbon chassis, but I think you'd better reinforce the fixed parts of the rear bumper because it is easy to break.
The amount of money which I have spend into Baja is mind-bogglingly huge :). I may even buy a true car :).
