「カニ族」とは
1960年代当時、長期旅行や本格的登山に適する、大量に荷物の入る大きなリュックサックは、横長のものしかなかった。これは幅が80cm程度あり、背負ったままでは列車の通路や出入り口は前向きに歩くことができず、カニのような横歩きを強いられたこと、またリュックサックを背負った後ろ姿がカニを思わせることから、この名が自然発生した。

Kanizoku (Crab family), popular among long term travelers and serious mountain climbers in 1960s, is a kind of huge rucksack which can be filled with a lot of baggage, especially with many wide things. The backpack is about 80 cm wide and it got its name from the fact that person who is wearing this rucksack is compelled to walk sideways like a crab, instead of walking straight through train passages or doorways and back figure of this person looks similar to a crab,
