Micrometers use the precise screw mechanism, amplifying displacement of rotation angle of the screw into the length and are used for measuring length precisely. They can measure more accurately than the vernier calipers.
Measurement range of commonly-used one is 25 mm and it is graduated in increments of 0.01 mm.
* You can measure things to an accuracy of 1/20 ㎜.
Since the measuring method was poor, the reading was larger than the true value.
The measured value was incorrectly determined as being within standards because zero point adjusting of the measuring instrument deviated 0.01㎜.
