ばかげたことに、材料の購入価格を5%引き下げるために20%のリワークが生じてしまっている。ただちに供給業者を変更しリワーク率を下げなければならない。しかし供給業者を再度変えるだけでは十分ではなく、そもそもなぜ今の供給業者に変えたのかについても考える必要がある。根本にある問題は購買部門の評価基準である。たとえ標準価格を下回っていても20%のリワークを生み出す材料を使っていては本末転倒なので、材料の質に関しても評価基準を設定し、購買部門に材料の質に対して責任を与えるべきだ。
