日本語を話さないと失礼に当たるのでしょうか?についてですが失礼にはなりません。
日本で日本人のお客様に対してビジネスをするのであれば日本語で話したほうが親近感がわくと思いますが出来なくても通訳という方法もありますし、メールでやりとりをする場合では翻訳サイトやネイティブ翻訳者に依頼するということで解決出来ると思います。
実際、私を含め日本人のほとんどの人達は英語が出来ないですから、日本人とビジネスをするから日本語を話せないと失礼と思うことはまずありません。

As for the question of whether not speaking Japanese is an insult, it most certainly is not.
If you are in Japan doing business with Japanese customers then I think it would definitely be a good idea to speak Japanese, but even if you don't there are translation services, and for things like email there are translation sites or native translators that can help.
The truth is, most Japanese people (myself included) can't speak English, so there's no way we would take somebody else not being able to speak Japanese as an insult.

To answer your question `Is it rude to not speak Japanese?`, it is not considered rude.
Upon doing business in Japan with Japanese customers, speaking the language helps build kinship. However, interpreters are always available. You can request native translators or translation websites to communicate through e-mails.
In reality, most Japanese including myself do not understand English. Most people will not consider the language barrier a matter of rudeness.

There`s no problem at all with the conclusion regarding gifts to new business partners.

In the Japanese tradition, we present a gift of gratitude semi-yearly to those who take care of us. This is with assumption of some history between the two, so it`s not necessary for new business partners.

Also, to answer your question `Is it true that Japanese only enjoys business with a Japanese company`, I believe it`s not a matter of preference but that most Japanese do not speak foreign languages, so communication becomes a challenge to them.
