西洋文明というのはキリストの十字架の死によって地球を西回りでスタート
しているようなものだ。マゼランの航海ではないが、地球は丸いと同様に歴史
も点と線だけで考えてはならない。人の人生も線で考えるから、苦悩に満ちて
いくように思える。過去と現在があり、果ては死へと続くと人生をとらえているのだ。本来は喜びも悲しみを全て連続性があり、巡り巡っていると考えてみてはどうだろう。人が演じる歴史も同じ事である。

It looks as if the western civilization started its west-east journey by the crucifixion of Christ. Just like the Magellan's voyage which proved the earth is round, history shouldn't be regarded as only dots and lines. Man's whole life seems to be full of anguish because we regard it as a line. It's because we think that man's life is a path consisting of past, present and future which eventually leads to death. Why don't we think this way: fundamentally there is the sequence between joy and sorrow and these two go around and come around in our lives. The same holds true for history in which man play each role.

Western culture seems to have spread westward through the earth, triggered by the crucifixion of Jesus. As with Magellan's circumnavigation, the earth is round, yet history must not be inspected just by dots and lines. A human's life is often viewed as a line, which is the reason it seems to be filled with difficulties. Life is thought to be with a past and present, and the future is such that eventually is connected with death. Actually, that happiness and sadness are both continuous, and are recurring events seems to be a better way of viewing life. The same thing can be said of history, which humans all take a part in.

Western culture is just like clockwise starting on the Earth by death of Jesus on the Cross. I am not talking about Magellan's voyage but you should not think about history by points and lines as same as the Earth is spherical. Because you think our life as lines, life seems full of sufferings. You grasp life as past and present then continue to death as its last. What about to think that basically joy and sorrow are all continuous so they go around and come around. It is the same thing to history which we play.
