The painting <Still Life with Old shoe> shows Joan Miró's strong reaction to the fascists during the Spanish Civil War. We can find clear images in this painting: an old shoe, a wine bottle, a fork sinking into an apple, and a cut loaf of bread, which looks like turning into a skull. Everything is set in a mysterious space, and the colors, the black and the claustrophobic sharps are all disgusting. This painting is not so abstract as other symbolism paintings, while it express Joan Miró's anguish and antipathy to the incident taking place in his beloved Spain. With the objects, colors and sharps, he denounced the degeneration, the disaster and the death.
