People can experience it by downloading the free Project Paperclip app. The app developed especially for this exhibit scans the QR scans very easily, connecting to musical airwaves. Try it online, where a few images from the Project Paperclip are viewable.“The QR codes are used to unlock the soundscapes so that the viewer has access to the reactive soundscapes designed for that photo,” he said as he explained how the idea evolved.
The experience at the gallery or using the app outside the exhibit will be different for everyone. The soundtracks will change depending on when and where you open the application. Your voice, level of noise in the room, movement, and location will set off different sounds, according to the artist. This gallery is the first augmented reality art exhibit, revolving around a Cold War theme — chosen because it is interesting from a cultural, scientific and political standpoint.SEE ALSO: Rooftop QR Codes Aim to Infiltrate Google Maps
“There has been an incredible wave of great feedback, I’ve been following mostly on Twitter,” said Serrão, who hopes to bring the augmented reality art experience to international audiences. The photos are surreal, especially with the pairing of soundtracks. The artist captured natural sound where photos were taken and incorporated those into original soundscapes co-created with musician Alexandre Gonçalves.
Brook Taylor was born in Edmonton (at that time in Middlesex) to John Taylor of Bifrons House, Kent, and Olivia Tempest, daughter of Sir Nicholas Tempest, Bart., of Durham.[citation needed] Brook entered St John's College, Cambridge as a fellow-commoner in 1701, and took degrees of LL.B. and LL.D. in 1709 and 1714, respectively.[1] Having studied mathematics under John Machin and John Keill, in 1708 he obtained a remarkable solution of the problem of the "centre of oscillation," which, however, remained unpublished until May 1714,[2] when his claim to priority was disputed by Johann Bernoulli.
Taylor's Methodus Incrementorum Directa et Inversa (1715) added a new branch to the higher mathematics, now designated the "calculus of finite differences." This work is available in translation on the web [1]. Among other ingenious applications, he used it to determine the form of movement of a vibrating string, by him first successfully reduced to mechanical principles. The same work contained the celebrated formula known as Taylor's theorem, the importance of which remained unrecognised until 1772, when J. L. Lagrange realized its powers and termed it "le principal fondement du calcul différentiel" ("the main foundation of differential calculus").
In his 1715 essay Linear Perspective, Taylor set forth the true principles of the art in an original and more general form than any of his predecessors; but the work suffered from the brevity and obscurity which affected most of his writings, and needed the elucidation bestowed on it in the treatises of John Joshua Kirby (1754) and Daniel Fournier (1761).aylor was elected a fellow of the Royal Society early in 1712, and in the same year sat on the committee for adjudicating the claims of Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz, and acted as secretary to the society from 13 January 1714 to 21 October 1718.
The Greek philosopher Zeno considered the problem of summing an infinite series to achieve a finite result, but rejected it as an impossibility: the result was Zeno's paradox. Later, Aristotle proposed a philosophical resolution of the paradox, but the mathematical content was apparently unresolved until taken up by Democritus and then Archimedes. It was through Archimedes's method of exhaustion that an infinite number of progressive subdivisions could be performed to achieve a finite result.[1] Liu Hui independently employed a similar method a few centuries later.
In the 14th century, the earliest examples of the use of Taylor series and closely related methods were given by Madhava of Sangamagrama.[3] Though no record of his work survives, writings of later Indian mathematicians suggest that he found a number of special cases of the Taylor series, including those for the trigonometric functions of sine, cosine, tangent, and arctangent. The Kerala school of astronomy and mathematics further expanded his works with various series expansions and rational approximations until the 16th century.
In the 17th century, James Gregory also worked in this area and published several Maclaurin series. It was not until 1715 however that a general method for constructing these series for all functions for which they exist was finally provided by Brook Taylor,[4] after whom the series are now named. The Maclaurin series was named after Colin Maclaurin, a professor in Edinburgh, who published the special case of the Taylor result in the 18th century.
The home screen is more or less the same, with Chrome-like pages for your most visited sites, apps, and games, as well as an OS X-like dock along the bottom. As with version 1.0, everything is customizable — you can switch backgrounds, move apps and pages around, and generally fix things how you like them. Flicking between these pages feels fantastic — very smooth and responsive with a mouse — but other aspects of the experience clearly aren’t as finely tuned. Several times when I clicked on apps to open them nothing happened because the browser thought I was clicking them to drag them somewhere else. Am I clicking wrong? Perhaps, but this doesn’t seem to happen to me with other browsers.
It also shares the rendering issues that plagued version one, probably because it’s based on a “dual core” Webkit and IE rendering engine (that’s what Baidu told us, anyway). This won’t be a big issue for Chinese users, since many Chinese websites are designed and tested on the assumption that visitors are all using IE anyway. The Chinese sites I tested all looked fine. It doesn’t work as well for foreign websites, though, and it did some odd, ugly things to Penn Olson that a user of Firefox or Chrome wouldn’t see.

Japan’s Freco Lets You Share and Discover Interesting Places with Like-minded PeopleEarlier this week, Tokyo-based startup Kaditt introduced an iPhone app (available in English and Japanese) that allows users to discover places to visit based on your friends’ recommendation. It’s called Freco, which is a combination of the two words, friends and recommend. The app allows you to disocover places to visit from a selection of sight-seeing and dining spots recommended by like-minded people you know on Facebook, Twitter, and Mixi.
The startup calls it a “location-focused social bookmarking service.” You can save sites and shops that you fancy as a “card” with their geographical profiles and pictures, and then share them with your followers.
As you discover posts about interesting places on the app, you can express your enthusiasm by pressing one of four buttons: cute, cool, tasty and nice. Your choice is collected by the app’s server in the background, generating a relationship map with you and the people you follow called a Trust Graph. This gives you a feed from like-minded people and serves up more accurate recommendations. The startup expects to monetize by partnering with street retailers and merchants, giving discount coupons to users depending on location, which is detected by the app.
The startup’s CEO Naoki Kadouchi explains that the app is targeting the ‘F1 layer,’ which are women in their early 20′s. With the launch of the app, they set up a showcase introducing a variety of places to visit recommended by female university students in Tokyo. The startup focused on making the coolest user interface to attract that particular demographic. In accordance with how much you are attracted by a post, you may press a ‘like” button up to seven times, and animated music notes will come up on the app when you tap the button.
Naoki Kadouchi used to work with Proctor and Gamble and has been running a social network business using video distribution and e-commerce while attending university. The company was commended with high honors at CyberAgent Ventures’ bi-annual startup competition event Startups 2011 Spring, winning the right to receive financial and physical support from the firm. They plan to introduce an Android app sometime soon, and are hoping to expand the service from Japan to North America and Taiwan, targeting one million users in six months.
