命を頂かなければ生きていけないのだから、「動物はダメで植物はOK。牛や豚はOKだけどイルカはダメ」のような人間の勝手な定義で語るのではなく、食べるものの命に感謝し、無駄に殺さないことが重要なのではないか。

日本には「いただきます」「ごちそうさま」という言葉がある。
「いただきます」は、日本人が食事を始める前に日常的に使う言葉だが、食材である生き物の植物や動物の命を絶ち調理し、それらの命をもらって、それを食べる人間が自分の命を維持し生存することの感謝を表すことを意味している。
