Only a few studies exist that have investigated its nonideological correlates.In one study of college-aged youth,authoritarianism was negatively related to aspects of identity exploration.In another study using the current sample of women,we found that scores on authoritarianism were higher for participants with traditional career and family outcomes.Furthermore,for participants involved in careers,authoritarianism was related to compartmentalizing job and family responsibilities and finding role combination stressful.In the current study,we expanded our examination of the everyday correlates of authoritarianism to look at implications for aging at later midlife.
