Rovio Launches Angry Birds for Facebook in Jakarta
Rovio Entertainment held a launch event at Mal Kelapa Gading in the city of Jakarta, the Facebook capital of the world based on the number of active Facebook accounts. Rovio today finally launched Angry Birds on Facebook, topped up with special features, including social components, power-ups, and Facebook-exclusive levels. You can have a go here.
With new social features for Angry Birds on Facebook, fans can compete with friends, brag around about scores and earn the coveted gold, silver, and bronze crowns. Power-ups are a big addition on Facebook. Beside the all-powerful Mighty Eagle there are more power-ups that you can receive by playing the game, receiving them as ‘mystery gifts’ from friends or purchasing them. There are four power ups available: Sling Scope, King Style, Super Seeds, and Bird Quake.
I asked Henri Holm, the SVP of Rovio Asia, why he chose this mall among all the other places in Jakarta where brands typically launch products. He explained:
We want to be where our fans are. We don’t hold press conferences, when we met you last month, it was a press conference. We are trying to think out of the box and reach our fans by holding this event. You can see families enjoying themselves here on this lovely day.
With this Facebook launch, reaching out to more 800 million users, Rovio goal of reaching a billion fans may well be on the right track. Another important announcement is that Pacific Licensing Studio is bringing Angry Birds to life through a consumer products launch. Pacific Licensing Studio was appointed as the official licensing representative in Southeast Asia and India, working with local partners to produce Angry Birds merchandise including apparels, novelties, and toys.
There is also the Angry Birds Facebook Jakarta Challenge. This is a photo contest Rovio is holding with Kompas, sponsored by Air Asia. Five lucky winners will get a trip to Bangkok. And lets not forget about the campaign on Facebook and Twitter to request Rovio to create the #MightyGaruda, one of the new characters that will be in a future version of #AngryBirdsID. While we didn’t see Angry Birds break out pink birds or red roses today, Rovio indeed gave Jakarta a very fun afternoon.
