Use a form
Develop a form that will take, at most, one minute to fill out. List the project, the name of the employee, the date the assignment was given, the date the work is due to be completed, and any specific requirements that you may have for that project. When you talk with an employee about the assignment, fill out the form, sign it, have her sign it, and then make a copy of it for her files. Keep your copy in a file for that employee so that whenever you meet with her, you can go over the projects she is currently working on.
Usually, you won't need to fill out a form for every assignment.
