彼が"告白"で述べたのは、人間の本当の幸福とは、人(被造物)を作った絶対的存在、絶対的善なる神に満足を求める事である。被造物たる人間が、その存在の欠如を満たそうとすれば、その欠けた部分は被造物を作られた神によってしか満たすことはできない。ピースの欠けたパズルに、いかにたくさんの異なるピースを寄せ集めてもパズルが完成しないように、被造物たる"金銀"や"宝石"や"虚栄"をどんなにたくさん寄せ集めたところで、人の欠けたところを埋め合わせることはできない。
What he mentioned through his confession was, people's real happiness is asking God for satisfaction that will become the absolute existence, the absolute good, that created man (a creation). People, which are creations, when their existence seems lacking in satisfaction, the missing part can only be satisfied by God who made the creations. Just like a puzzle with a missing piece cannot be completed no matter how many different pieces you have gathered, no matter how many creations such as "gold and silver", "jewels" or "glory" are accumulated, they will be unable to make up for the missing pieces in a person.
