Marshall is 2 days away from me for receiving goods. So, even when dont have something in stock - it can be gotten in no time. USPS on the other hand ... is SLOW these days. Last time I sent something to AU and NZ it took them 20 days ! (ouch)

No I havent had time to watch the olympics ...... Ive been busy getting ready for the upcomming holidays (Christmas). We opened up with 30 new companies and we have been VERY busy. My brother is there a the Olympics - he works for NBC in finance and was there 3 months before the games started - he was partially in charge of the finances to help build the camera platforms and housing for all NBC personel. (No he never brings me back anything good - usually tshirts and stuff! :| )


Not a problem on the return at all. Yes sending you 12 after I get the defective one back and billing you for 11 is just fine.

How Tencent’s Qute is Chatting Up Indonesia

So Tencent’s made-for-Indonesia Qute messaging app has more than a million users. That makes me curious to find out what is it all about and how is it different from the 100 million user strong WeChat. On surface, there isn’t too much of a difference since both WeChat and Qute are mobile chat apps. You type, you send, you chat — that’s about it.

Tencentのインドネシア向けQuteメッセージングアプリは、100万人以上のユーザーを獲得している。それを知って、一体これがどのようなアプリなのか、そして1億人ものユーザーを誇る巨大アプリWeChatとの違いは何であるのかを探り出してみたくなった。表面的には、WeChatもQuteも共にモバイルチャットアプリで、たいした違いは見られない。ユーザーは、入力し、送信し、チャットする。それが全体的な流れだ。

Diving deeper still, I find that Qute is extremely social, but is pretty much the same as WeChat. Discovery seems to be at WeChat’s core whereas Qute puts it right at your face. And as you know if you’re a long time reader of this site, Indonesia really does love social. Qute is fun if you’re really looking to making more new friends, or perhaps someone to be more than a friend..

Qute search allows you to find other users based on gender and region. Unfortunately, it isn’t capable of allowing users to search based on location. WeChat, on the other hand, allows both location-based and gender search. Qute also doesn’t have address book matching like WeChat does. So finding friends on Qute is a norm.

So how do users connect via Qute? Every Qute user has a unique number. Indonesians are accustomed to connecting via a Blackberry pin number. So connecting via a Qute number should be just fine in Indonesia too. Qute, though made by Tencent, doesn’t allow users to use their QQ number to log in. I tried and it failed. So this app really is a standalone for Indonesia.

All in all, Qute and WeChat don’t really have many differences between them. Qute obviously has more Indonesian users than WeChat. The users surrounding me on WeChat are mostly Chinese (I’m in Jakarta now), and I confess I’m quite surprised to see so many of them in Indonesia. Qute is fun to use, but it isn’t well-optimized for a smartphone. And perhaps it is meant to be this way since its features cater mostly to lower end phones.

Taobao Sellers Stressed as Online Retailing Gets Tougher

Being one of millions of amateur shopkeepers on China’s Taobao, the country’s biggest consumer-to-consumer online marketplace, can be tough. And it’s getting even tougher these days, Chinese media claims, with “almost 10,000 Taobao sellers per day” opting to rest or quit their online stores recently. The added pressure, says an article today in Sina Tech, is coming from more stringent quality controls on Taobao sellers – who mostly run their stores part-time in the midst of regular jobs – which include financial penalties for things like terrible customer service or selling fake items.

California is warm right now but I like cold weather! In Nov or Dec I will be in Tokyo
then travel by car to Yokosuka and after a week I will go back to Tokyo and fly back to

カリフォルニアは今とても暖かいですが、私は寒い気候が好きなんです！11月か12月には私は東京に行きますが、その後は車で横須賀に向かい、その1週間後には東京に戻り、飛行機でカリフォルニアに戻ります。でも戻るのはしゃぶしゃぶを食べてからです！東京駅の近くに、しゃぶしゃぶ食べ放題のすごく良いレストランがあるのですが、フライト前に行ければいいな、と思っています。

5月、私はスイスに行ってましたが、年末にはスウェーデンでインストレーションができればと思っていたんですが、どうやら実現できない気配です。3月にはカウアイにも行ってきましたが、（すっごく暑い）アリゾナ州のツーソンを何度か訪ねる予定もあり、暑いのは嫌なんですが、まあ仕方ないですね！仕事は仕事ですから。
