I think the best way is open your account with big bank near you living.
Because you can easily open up a acount with your neighboring bank,
Have you any bank(Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho,Mitsuisumitomo) around your house?
Because it is probable that these bank has a person who speak english.
You stay in Japan over 6 month, so you can make it with your ID card and seal.
