Renren Headhunting is a crowdsourcing recruiting service targeted at medium- and high-tier TMT talent markets. The company has received tens of millions yuan in angel investment and millions of dollars from KPCB in Series A financing this year.

The company’s monthly revenue stands at millions of yuan, mainly from service commissions and advertisements.

How one Chinese e-commerce site turns its shoppers into models

As confirmed by a recent study, many women like to check out other woman’s appearances. Whether its hair, clothes, or possessions, it apparently stems from some primal desire to get ahead. The Chinese e-commerce site Vancl has long realized this, encouraging its own customers to model clothes they’ve bought from the site.

Vancl – which sells its own brand of clothes, a bit like Japan’s Uniqlo – puts all this into its Vancl Star portal (pictured above), an interesting social commerce experiment where women can browse through photos of fellow customers wearing items from the site. It’s a mix of a social media site and e-commerce. While it does have a few male users, it seems mostly geared to female shoppers.

If you click on an photo on Vancl Star, you see the user’s own photo accompanied by a traditional e-commerce listing for the feature product, including the price and an ‘add to cart’ button.

Sina Weibo to launch super-fast earthquake notification service

More good news in the vein of social media being used for disaster response: China’s state seismological bureau, in an apparent cooperation with Sina Weibo, has announced a new feature on its Weibo account that will automatically notify followers of an earthquake virtually immediately — between 10 to 100 seconds after the quake, according to Sina Tech.

The notifications will come via private messages and will only be sent to users in the vicinity of the earthquake. Since they’re sent as PMs, they will appear on users phones without the users needing to actually open the Weibo app (unless they’ve disabled notifications, presumably). According to sources at Sina, it is much like text notifications, but quicker and more accurate.

The advantages of such a service are obvious, as it could allow for faster response times for rescuers, and could help notify potential victims who weren’t aware of the initial quake before any subsequent aftershocks can inflict further damage. That’s still not as good as getting a notification before the quake, of course, but since earthquakes are extremely difficult to predict, this new service is probably the fastest earthquake notification China can hope for in the short term.

China has been the victim of a number of devastating quakes in recent memory — the worst being 2008′s Beichuan quake — but this Weibo announcement comes just as news is spreading of a magnitude 4.6 earthquake in Sichuan occurred just hours ago.

U.S. Online Car Booking Service Uber To Accelerate Expansion In China After Shanghai Rollout

American online car booking service Uber planned to land in one Chinese city every three months from now on, according to Martin Lee, head of the company’s Asian team (report in Chinese). In addition to Shanghai, the first Chinese city that Uber launched service, Uber is prepping for headways in Beijing and Kong Hong.

As a car booking platform, Uber sealed cooperation deals with local taxi companies and share commissions with them. Uber’s cars are generally nicer than average taxies in China, including BMW 7-series, Audi A8, Mercedes S-Class, and therefore, the charges are much higher, about two to three times of that for the ordinary taxies. The company’s market strategy that eyes high-tier market avoids the competition with rising taxi apps as well as policy risks, since Chinese government stepped in earlier this year to regulate the market (report in Chinese).
