But trends show that e-money will grow much faster in the coming years. All of Indonesia’s e-money transactions in 2009 totaled IDR 1.4 billion ($122,000) per day. The following year it increased to IDR 1.9 billion ($165,000) per day. Of the more than 40 respondents that Baidu interviewed over three months, 40 percent had heard of wearable devices, with men more likely than women. Distimo, a US-based app analytics company, yesterday published its September 2013 report, detailing new trends and insights into the gaming industry.

Titled ‘Games: King of the mobile eco-system’, the report reveals that 48 percent of all apps in the Top Overall category were games, and those apps generated 92 percent of the total revenue for Google Play. Additionally, for the iOS App Store, 52 percent of all apps in the Top Overall category were games, and generated 79 percent of revenue.

Here are more major findings, according to the Distimo September 2013 report.

1. Revenue shares of games on both iOS and Google Play have shot up 13 percent-points, as compared to the same time period last year.

2. 94 percent of revenue generated on Google Play in Korea were from games.

3. As for iOS App Store, the largest revenue share — 84 percent — from games was generated in Taiwan.

4. In the Amazon Appstore, 63 percent of all downloads were generated by games.

5. Role-playing games (RPGs) had the largest share of the revenue in the All Games category: 14 percent in the Apple App Store.

Taiwan seems to be doing really well, in terms of game apps, as 89 percent of the total revenue in Google Play for the market was generated by that particular industry.

The report concluds that Asian countries have a higher revenue share for games, compared to their European counterparts.

This Malaysian startup had also recently raised $500,000 in seed funding from Asia Venture Group (AVG) back in June. Since then, it has expanded beyond Malaysia to five other countries: Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.

Lee Ching Wei, iMoney’s co-founder and group CEO plans to further strengthen the company’s number one market position in Malaysia and Southeast Asia with this new round of funding.

The company also appointed former CIMB, Citi and RBS senior banker Bruno Araujo as co-founder and chief revenue officer.

While money is flowing into e-commerce in Southeast Asia, the gap between the physical and online retail markets is still staggering.

Indonesia’s retail industry is valued at $134 billion, yet e-commerce is estimated to be worth only 0.7 percent of that figure. In the Philippines, the retail sector is pegged at $32.8 billion, but a Nielsen survey discovered that only one percent of consumers in 2011 have tried e-commerce in the past month.
