For the traditional company, the learning organization poses huge challenges. In the learning organization managers are researchers and designers rather than controllers and overseers. Senge argues that managers should encourage employees to be open to new ideas, communicate frankly with each other, understand thoroughly how their companies operate, form a collective vision and work together to achieve their goal.

'The world we live in presents unprecedented challenges for which our institutions are ill prepared', says Senge.

5 Team learning - the discipline of team learning involves two practices: dialogue and discussion. The former is characterized by its exploratory nature, the latter by the opposite process of narrowing down the field to the best alternative for the decisions that need to be made. The two are mutually complimentary, but the benefits of combining them only come from having previously separated them. Most teams lack the ability to distinguish between the two and to move consciously between them.

3 Mental models - this essentially deals with the organization's driving and fundamental values and principles. Senge alerts managers to the power of patterns of thinking at the organizational level and the importance of non-defensive inquiry into the nature of these patterns.

4 Shared vision - here Senge stresses the importance of co-creation and argues that shared vision can only be built on personal vision. He claims that shared vision is present when the task that follows from the vision is no longer seen by the team members as separate from the self.

Senge suggests there are five components to a learning organization:

1 Systems thinking - Senge champions systems thinking, recognizing that things are interconnected.

2 Personal mastery - Senge grounds this idea in the familiar competencies and skills associated with management, but also includes spiritual growth - opening oneself up to a progressively deeper reality - and living life from a creative rather than a reactive viewpoint. This discipline involves two underlying movements - continually learning how to see current reality more clearly - and the ensuing gap between vision and reality produces the creative tension from which learning arises.

Alibaba’s Mobile Social Network? LaiWang.com Quietly Launched

It’s not the first time for Alibaba trying to enter the social network. Taojianghu is its first product with serious interest in social networking. It makes sense for Alibaba’s eCommerce business as Taojianghu is built around Taobao, in other words, it’s meant to be a social eCommerce platform. The bad news is that Taojianghu has not gone really social at all, still.

However, Alibaba did not give up the social network market. Today, a new social networking site Laiwang.com is quietly launched, and the domain is registered by Alibaba.

Indonesian Startup Brings Instagram Fun to BlackBerry [INTERVIEW]

We all know how famous Instagram is with millions of users snapping and sharing grungy pictures with it on their iPhones – even in Indonesia. Yet, with most of us smartphone fans here having a Blackberry by our side, we wish it would be ported to RIM’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) OS.

Our wish has sort of come true – perhaps for the second time, as Pikubo tried back in August – with BibbyCam (pictured above), which was made by Grace Tahir and Ronald Komalaputra. Although not officially launched yet, the app has gained some word-of-mouth hype, and we thought it’d be interesting to see what the founders have to say. So, we chatted with the duo via email:

インドネシアのスタートアップがInstagramをBlackBerryでも楽しめるようにする[インタビュー]

Instagramがいかに多くのユーザーにiPhoneでいかした写真を撮り、共有するのに有名か知っている。それはインドネシアでも同じだ。しかし、インドネシアのスマートフォンのファンは、BlackBerryを使っていて、InstagramがRIMのOSに対応してくれるのを待ち望んでいる。

その願いはある意味でかなった（これはおそらくPikudoが去年の8月に試みたのに続き2回目）。Grace TahirとRonald KomapaputraがつくったBibbyCam（上の写真）によって。まだ公式にローンチされたわけではないが、既に口コミで噂になっており、私たちは創設者たちが何を言いたいのか気になった。そこでメールで二人と話してみた。

1. What’s the Bibbycam app about, and what inspired you to start/make it?

"Bibbycam has 15 filters including lomo, old photo and over-saturated, plus a double filter feature to create your own filter. Users can link their photos to other sites such as Facebook and Twitter, they can comment and ‘bibb’ (or ‘like’) each others’ pictures as well. We created this application because we realized there’s a dearth of photo-filtering and sharing apps for Blackberry users, and as avid photographers and Blackberry freaks, we wanted to do one that can meet that need. We hope this application can also be fun and useful for other Blackberry users out there.

このBibbycamアプリとはなにか？何がインスパイアしたのか？

「BibbycamはLomo, old photoをはじめとした15のフィルターがあり、さらにダブルフィルターという機能でオリジナルのフィルターを作ることもできる。ユーザーはFacebookやTwitterなどの自分のサイトにリンクすることも出来、コメントしたり、”bibb”したり（"like"のように）できる。これを作ったのは、BlackBerryユーザのための写真共有やフィルターサービスがないことに気づいたんだ。僕ら自身、写真もBlackBerryも大好きだから、そのニーズを満たすものを作りたかったんだ。このアプリが他のBlackBerryユーザにとっても面白くて便利なものであると願っているよ」

We do plan to have it available through the Blackberry App World as well."


2. Instagram is famous for its filter-photo-service, partly because the iPhone has got a great camera. Can you replicate this on a Blackberry?

僕らはBlackBerry App Worldを通じて皆が使えるようにしようとも思っている。」

2.Instagramは写真フィルターサービスで有名だが、それはiPhoneが素晴らしいカメラを持っているからでもある。これをBlackBerryでも再現できる？

"Obviously we won’t be able to compete or change anything about the hardware, but that’s precisely the reason why we did BibbyCam just for Blackberry. Even though the RIM OS and hardware aren’t as great and versatile as the iPhone’s iOS, and we realise a lot of people and critics have undermined Blackberry. However, there are still a lot of Blackberry users out there and a lot of them want a photo-filter service. The market for iPhone and Android photo apps is amazingly crowded and competitive – we realized this and we did not want to go into that market. We wanted to empower Blackberry users, to give them a choice."

「もちろん僕らはハードに関しては競合することも帰ることもできないが、だからこそBibbyCamをBlackBerry専用にしたんだ。RIM OSがiOSほど素晴らしくもないし融通はきかないけれど、多くの人・批評はBlackBerryを批判していると思う。だけど、BlackBerryユーザはたくさんいるし、その多くは写真フィルターサービスが欲しいんだ。iPhoneやAndroidむけの写真アプリは信じられないほど競合がひしめいている。僕らはこれに気がついていたし、そこに飛び込みたくはなかったんだ。僕らはBlackberryユーザのために何かしたかった。選択肢を作りたかった。」

3. Some local social networking apps – such as Menoo and Bouncity – have gotten into trouble getting traction because most Blackberry users in Indonesia are getting the cheapest data plan that includes only Twitter, Facebook and Instant Messaging. How will you overcome this?

"We can only overcome it by creating a product that is super great and engaging, so people will want to upgrade their data plan to be able to use BibbyCam. This is why it’s free; BB users can use that extra money instead to upgrade their data plan."

3.MenooやBouncityなどのローカルソーシャルネットワーキングアプリは、インドネシアのほとんどのBlackberryユーザがTwitter, Facebookやインスタントメッセージ機能だけしか使えない最安のデータプランを使っていることでユーザを取り込めない問題に直面しているが、これについてはどうするつもり？

「これを克服するにはものすごくよくて、やりたくなるような製品を作り、BibbyCamを使うためにユーザが料金プランをアップグレードしたくなるようにするしかない。だからこれは無料なんだ。BBユーザはお金を代わりにデータプランをアップグレードするために使える。」

4. It has been launched for a few weeks now; what are the early adopters saying?

"It has not been officially launched, the current users have found us through word-of-mouth. We do plan to launch it officially early next year. We are in talks with three big consumer brands in Indonesia to launch BibbyCam not as a “techie” product but as a lifestyle product. Thus far, we have seen an increase in registered users week after week, and they have been very supportive in sharing the app with their friends and even giving us suggestions for future updates."

4. ローンチされて数週間経つが、アーリーアダプターはなんと言ってる？

「まだ公式にローンチされてない、今のユーザは口コミで見つけてくれた。来年の頭に公式ローンチする予定だ。僕らはインドネシアにおける3つの大きなコンシューマブランドと話をしていて、BibbyCamをテッキーな製品としてではなく、ライフスタイルの製品として打ち出すつもりだ。ここまで、登録ユーザは週ごとに増えている。彼らは友人にアプリを紹介してくれるし、アップデートのための提案までしてくれる。」

5. What is your plan for BibbyCam next year since we’re close to the end of this year?

"As mentioned before the first thing we’re going to do is to launch BibbyCam officially, and next up we are planning to introduce a photo-filtering service on the website so we can grab more market share. We are also planning a series of contests and games with local brands."

5.年の瀬ですが、BibbyCamの来年の予定は？

「既に言ったように、まずBibbyCamを公式にローンチします。そして次に写真フィルターサービスを市場シェアをつかむために提供し始めるつもりです。僕らはまたローカルブランドといっしょにコンテストやゲームをする予定です」

6. What do you think about the start-up ecosystem here in Indonesia?

"We are new to this industry, but we have seen great camaraderie in the start-up environment here in Jakarta. All the different developers want one thing, which is to see this industry grow and mature, so we do support each other’s projects."
