Sumitomo group launches online grocer Sukamart in Indonesia

The next generation of grocery shopping is finally here in Indonesia.

Recently, a joint venture between Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Indonesia known as Sumisho E-Commerce Indonesia has officially launched its Indonesian grocery e-commerce website Sukamart.com. This spells revolution, as it cuts down hours of being stuck in traffic and utilizing those hours to do something more useful. This e-commerce site not only gives you the flexibility to shop online but delivering your groceries to your doorstep as well.

次世代食料品店がついにここインドネシアに誕生した。

最近、日本に本社を置くSumitomo CorporationとSumisho E-Commerce Indonesiaとして知られるSumitomo Indonesiaのジョイントベンチャーがインドネシアの食料品Eコマース・ウェブサイトSukamart.comを公式にローンチした。これは交通渋滞に巻き込まれる時間をなくしてその分の時間をもっと有意義に使えるので革命を意味している。このEコマースサイトはオンラインで買い物をする柔軟性だけでなく購入した食料品を自宅の玄関先まで配達してくれる。

Sukamart has six main product categories namely food, beverages, personal care, health products, baby care as well as home and kitchen. Currently they have more than 1,000 products and they will deliver your groceries within two days of your purchase for Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) residents. They also cater to nationwide delivery but will take more days and is more expensive.

Making payments is easy as Sukamart allows bank transfer from BCA, Mandiri and BRI accounts. Free delivery service is available for up to 5kg of groceries in Jabodetabek area until January 31st. Sukamart also plans to add over 15,000 products by the end of this year and to expand their delivery service outside the pre-planned area. This e-commerce site is going to offer cash on delivery (COD) payment service and other payment methods such as credit cards and internet banking will be supported soon.

Many Indonesians can now experience the comfort of buying groceries online as beating the traffic jam will not be a part of their shopping problem now. Major grocers such as Giant and Carrefour in Indonesia have yet to launch this full online shopping service for their customers. However, Carrefour lets customers buy online and pick up their groceries at selected stores. Online shopping is fast, discreet and easy. It is no wonder shoppers are filling up virtual carts instead of visiting brick-and-mortar shops. Perhaps it is about time to encourage all major grocers to launch online shopping for the ease and comfort of shoppers.

It’s more than luck — there’s something intriguing about POP, which stands for Prototyping on Paper — that makes it stick in the minds of users.

Put simply, the app allows users to capture and upload pen-and-paper sketches of their mobile app designs and link them together to create interactive prototypes. It makes designers’ lives much easier, liberating them from the need to learn the UI of a standard wireframing software.

The app attacks another common problem: Miscommunication between designers and developers. By making sketches interactive, UX designers can better illustrate how the user interface should flow, instead of asking developers to imagine how the app works.

I met Shao and Leo at a cafe in Orchard Road, Singapore, on a Saturday morning. Shao looked visibly tired while Leo seemed slightly aloof — which is perfectly understandable since the duo had just concluded a number of meetings with investors and startup accelerators in Singapore. My confab with them was the last item on their fundraising agenda before they fly out of the country. Their next destination was San Francisco.

‘Overworked’ is a word Shao used again and again in our conversation. He doesn’t just mean it in the sense that all startup founders work like dogs. He meant it in the how-do-we-deal-with-this-crazy-growth sense.

A problem they faced with the deluge of downloads was that they couldn’t properly mull over and implement a revenue model. It’s something they’re working hard to fix right now. The app will still be available for free, although power users will eventually have to pay.

While having tons of downloads is pretty cool, the team is focused on other metrics. Shao told me that 40,000 projects have been created so far, with an average of 7 sheets per project. That’s encouraging: It means that people are actually using the app to create complete and interactive wireframes.

The team is adamant about moving out of Taiwan (“the startup ecosystem there is non-existent,” said Shao). As to where they’re headed, they won’t make a decision until they’ve met angel investors in Silicon Valley.

If all goes well for them, expect even more parties to come.

Autonavi’s Maps Apps Guide Over 100 Million Users in China

Regular readers will recall that Autonavi (NASDAQ:AMAP) makes the most popular mobile maps apps in China – way ahead of the rather lost Google Maps. Today Autonavi has announced that its maps apps have surpassed 100 million users. That’s just in China. The maps are available for three smartphone platforms: Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

愛読者の方々はthat Autonavi (NASDAQ:AMAP)が中国で最も人気のあるモバイル地図アプリだということを思い出されるだろう。本日、Autonavi は同社の地図アプリのユーザー数が1億を超えたと発表した。地図はAndroid、iOS、Windows Phoneの3種類のスマートフォン・プラットフォームで利用可能だ。

Autonavi CEO Congwu Cheng said of today’s milestone: “The popularity of our map app also reflects the remarkable extent to which location-based solutions have become part of the daily life of China’s mobile internet users.” The mobile maps also give real-time traffic data, 3D views, social integration with Sina Weibo, navigation, and estimated arrival times.

The Autonavi mobile apps have 25.9 percent market share in this sector (see the graph below), ahead of search engine Baidu whose Baidu Maps are at 19.1 percent. Google is down to sixth place in 2012 Q3.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) tapped Autonavi as its partner for maps of mainland China, meaning that the craptacular Apple Maps avoided much of the global censure in China thanks to Autonavi’s data. Qihoo is also paying for Autonavi’s geographic know-how in its new maps website.

Autonaviのモバイルアプリは、この分野で25.9%の市場シェアを占めており（下図参照）、検索エンジンBaiduのBaidu Mapsが 19.1%でそれに続いている、Googleは2012年第3四半期に6位に落ちた。

Today’s milestone means that Autonavi joins the ranks of only five other Chinese companies with mobile apps that have topped 100 million users. Those others are Tencent, Alibaba, Qihoo, Sina, and UCWeb. Some of those likely have several apps that have passed that huge figure.
