All my life I've been registering scores like that, so that I always feel that I'm highly intelligent, and I expect other people to think so, too. Actually, though, don't such scores simply mean that I am very good at answering a particular type of academic question - questions that are considered important by the people who make up the intelligence test - people who are intellectuals, just like me?

人生の中でも僕はいつもそういう高得点を取っていたから、いつも自分はとても知性が高いのだと思っていた。そして他の人にもそう思ってほしいと期待していた。でも実際は、そういう高得点を出すからといって、必ずしも僕が特定の学問的質問－僕みないな、知能テストを作る人たちが重要と考えるような質問－に答えることにも長けているとはいえなかった。
