All my life I've been registering scores like that, so that I always feel that I'm highly intelligent, and I expect other people to think so, too. Actually, though, don't such scores simply mean that I am very good at answering a particular type of academic question - questions that are considered important by the people who make up the intelligence test - people who are intellectuals, just like me?

私の人生はずっとそういった点数の積み重ねだったため、私はいつも自分が高い知性を持っているような感覚を持っており、他人にもそう思われることを期待している。しかし実際のところは、そういった点数は、私が単に、ある種の専門的な設問—知能テストを作る人々が重要だと考えている設問—に答えることが得意だということしか意味していないのではないか？　そしてそうした設問を作っているのは私と同じような有識者といわれる人々なのだ。
