それは、STAP細胞問題です。この問題は、理研のみならず科学界に大きな衝撃を与え、同時に小保方晴子氏が卒業した早稲田大学のずさんな博士論文の管理も問題となりました。
人々の期待も大きく、それを結果的に謝罪もなく裏切った小保方氏の責任は相当なものです。
特に新しい万能細胞へ大いに期待していたであろう難病の患者やその関係者の落胆は想像もできません。
これらが私が考える重要な出来事です。

This is the issue concerning STAP cells. This issue gave a big shock not only to RIKEN(Institute of Physical and Chemical Research) but to the whole science world. At the same time, some pointed at issues with the management of doctorates of Waseda University from which Haruko Obokata graduated.
Especially, the disappointment of patients suffering of diseases hard to cure and other concerned parties that have high expectations about omnipotent cells is unimaginable.
These are important facts to my mind.
