炊事用のエネルギー消費量が増加しなかった背景には以下の理由が考えられる。まず食生活の充実は７０年代半ばまでに既に達成されていた。その時期までに炊事機器の効率改善はある程度進んでおり、７０年代以降の外食化やレトルト商品の普及もエネルギー消費を抑える方向に作用した。同時期、暖房用エネルギー消費の伸びも少なかった。理由としては暖房機器の普及が飽和していったこと、それらの熱効率改善が進んだことがある。暖房機器保有数は増加し、暖房を行う住空間は拡大したが、それらの影響は限定的であった。
The reasons behind amount of energy consumption for cooking didn't increase could be followings. At first, quality of diet was accomplished before late 1970's. Efficiency of kitchen appliances had been improved somewhat then, and also popularization of eat-out and retort pouched foods in 70's and after helped holding energy consumption down. At same time, energy consumption of heating didn't increase a lot. The reason could be slowing down of popularization of heaters, and also improvement of these heaters' thermal efficiency. Number owned of heaters increased, spaces of living to heat was expanded, but the influence was limited.
