There are so many bands around that 'sound' good but they don't really have any songs, they don't have any hooks, nothing to hold on to.

I think songwriting is the hardest skill to perfect as a musician (and something I'm still trying to do) and lots of people get caught up with the 'sound' of their music without focusing on songwriting.

I think if you can listen to a crappy tape recording of a song and that song still gets across then it's a great song.

多くのバンドが良い「音」に囲まれているが、曲を全く持っていなく、聞かせどころがなく、すがれるものがない。
作詞作曲は、(私もずっと努力しているのだが、)パーフェクトなミュージシャンになる上で最も難しいスキルであると思う。そして、多くの人が作詞作曲に注目することなく、その音楽の持つ「音」に夢中になる。

もし、粗末なテープ録音がされている曲を聴き、それでもその曲に伝わるものがあれば、それはすばらしい曲であると思う。
