現在も京都には茶道の家元が拠点を置き、またお寺や神社の行事、祇園祭などのお祭りでもしばしば献茶（けんちゃ）が行われるなど、茶道の文化は京都にはとても根強く受け継がれています。
元々お茶が日本に伝えられたころは、お茶の飲み方といえば皆、粉にしたお茶をお湯で溶いて飲む「抹茶」のスタイルでした。急須を使って入れる「煎茶」のスタイルは、江戸時代になってから生まれたものです。（実は煎茶の拠点も、京都の宇治・黄檗宗萬福寺（おうばくしゅう・まんぷくじ）にあります）

Originally, a "Matcha" style in which we drink teas dissolving tea powdered in hot water was the main stream of having tea when the tea culture was imported into Japan. "Sencha" style that uses teapot was born in the Edo era.
(As the matter of fact, Sencha is also based on the Oubakusyu Manpuku temple in Uji city, Kyoto.)
