ただ、I requested you a replacement of an item previously.のところ、わかっている商品だから、of the itemとthe にしなければならないのでは？
return shipping cost, however, I cannot agree with it.　　howeverは接続詞にはならないので、return shipping cost；however, I cannot agree with it.　とセミコロンでつなぐと教えらました。マーク・ピーターセンの“日本人の英語”にはそうあります。thereforeなども同様と彼は云っています。
英語はどんどん変わっていきますから、自信はないですが。

of the item ですが、確かに特定のitemですけど、なんだか、今、来た返事に書いてる、っていう風には見えなくて、時間が空いてるように感じられたので、a にしたのです。その理由付けが正しいかどうかわかりませんが。
however に関しては、セミコロン、私は見たことないです・・・
therefore もなんですか？う～～、わからん！この前、そこはtherefore じゃなくて hence だと言われたことあるんですが、その違いもわからん！
