Stay Pretty, No Pity is a inspired by three Japanese horror stories. Ringu, Slit-Mouth Woman and Yotsuya Kaidan. It has detective elements like Ringu, ghost rules like Slit-Mouth Woman, but the lore, ghost character, and backstory is all from Yotsuya Kaidan.
It hard to explain what inspired me about Yotsuya Kaidan without spoiling the final film, but beside the look of Oiwa, it was ironically not Oiwa herself, but the samurai who married and, eventually, killed her, because she got deformed, and then saw her deformed face everywhere until he killed himself (although, how he and Oiwa died have many different versions).
Stay Pretty, No Pity
